Clutch Case Removal

  1. All,

Anyone got tips for getting the clutch case (not cover) off.

All 10 (is that right) bolts are out and I have given it a bit of a whack with a rubber hammer and tried knocking a bit of a lip (miss match in casings) with some hard plastic but remains very much stuck. I think this would be original gaskets and not 3 bond. Possibly heatwhich I have just seen on another thread.

  2. Assuming you have the clutch basket off? Try a piece of wood/dowel in the oil fill hole for some leverage and use the threaded holes (not those through into the engine casing) for the clutch cover - fit a vented cover as a handle if you have one? Should pull away fairly easily.

  3. Dukedesmo,

Yes basket out tapped holes and seal visible, like the tip about leverage from a dowl in the oil filler hole. No vented cover available. Will have another go.

  4. Well I think heat was the deciding factor in the end, does not need too much though. I tried the bit of wood but it was not moving.
I bought a M22 banjo bolt from ebay, few quid. Inserted an M12 x 20 lg hex head with corner ground off so it fitted through hole and wrapped the threads in electricians tape so it was a good fit and would not fall out.
Screwed this in the filler hole - the hex contacted one of the socket head cap crews holding the oil pump on. I heated the joint around the front of the cover for about 5 mins, not that hot I could still touch it and wound the bolt in. The casing came off a few mm. Let it cool a bit jack it off again then waggle the casing until free.

    Cheers Gaz
