749 Clutch Cover Rubber Gasket.

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Mongoose, Jun 24, 2014.

  1. After removing the clutch cover and cleaning the clutch dust out I found that the rubber gasket has split and perished so I left it out when refitting the cover back on. Apart from fitting the small spacers inside the bolt holes of the rubber gasket back before the cover went on I can't imagine it will do any harm leaving it out? Has anyone done this before? Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

  2. If you put a couple of washers between the covers and the casing it will allow the clutch dust to escape. I run the clutch cover like this on my 999 and 1198.

  3. I have a spare if you want it for free.

Is missing one or two of the spacers if I remember correctly.

  4. Cheers JC749 but I can hear the springs rattling away now when I engage the clutch and kinda like it. Sounds more 'Ducati' now to me! Many thanks all the same though.

  5. hahaha no prob.

Open clutch is the best and the look of disdain from non ducutisti is well worth it :p

  7. I think open clutch covers emphasise the character of the bike, its the first 'mod' I did when I got my 999S,only thing is when you put an open cover on you feel obligated to change the pressure plate and springs/bolts too cos' the original usually looks understandably manky.I remember an old guy in a flat cap standing looking at my bike in a carpark, when I started it up I was shocked to see him mouth ...''F@ckin hell'' ,do you think you'll make it home...he wasn't joking! ...:D
