748 Clutch Question(s)

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by John E, May 2, 2020.

  1. My clutch was very heavy so have been running on 4 springs, which does make it easier on the wrist. Was wondering if switching the stock slave cylinder (pictured) to an Oberon would make much difference?

Also, I don’t think my clutch is standard so wondering if this MPL (see pic) is any good?

    thanks

  2. As Sev said. Clutch pack is probably std and previous owner added the bling pressure plate?

  3. it looks like you have stainless steel springs which will almost certainly be contributing to a heavier action, sometimes as much as 30% of total lbf/inch depending on wire gauge.

  4. I agree. I have standard master and slave cylinders and 6 spring slipper and my lever is no problem in stop/start traffic. I have standard steel springs

  5. Ahh... that’s really helpful, thanks. I’ll look into that and see what other spring options I have. Many thanks.
(Clutches and the various cylinders are definitely not my strong point)

  6. For question two. I've been using both mpl pressure plate and basket with standard plates for the last 30000ish miles with no issues, so yes

  9. I had a 1981 Jota in the 90s. The clutch on that was brutal.
