Clutch Seal Removal

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bettes, Feb 3, 2017.

  1. hi all

Just had the clutch case slots milled out and the case bead blasted. I have all the seals, sight glass... already here for fitting after painting. Just after some recommendations for removing the main seal without damaging the case itself.

    Thanks, Ian

  2. Hi Ian, as it's an oil seal, it shouldn't be a tight interference fit. Seal the case in a plastic bag (optional) and drop into a bucket of boiled hot water for 5 minutes. Then with gloves on you should be able to push the seal out by hand. Andy

  3. Cheers Andy. Through persistence I got the bugger out. In the end I heated the casing up gently and tapped the seal from the inside out. It's a heavy duty jobby encased in a pressed steel surround.
I'll fit the new seal, with the case already on the bike and use the clutch basket as a press.
    Pic of it before painting.

  5. Haha. Was thinking about a mag cover but then you'd need the alternator one as well! Damn them voices! :)
