Clutch Slave Cylinder - Issue?

  1. Folks,

I bought a 2006 999s in June. Had some wiring problems (sorted with much assistance from Jim on the Forum!). My first drive was short and to a great mechanic because I knew the bike had some issues beyond my confidence in fixing myself. On the journey, I don't remember issues with the gearbox or clutch but I asked the mechanic to fit an Oberon clutch slave cylinder for lighter gear change and he did. No issues. . I previously had a 999s and 999r with silky smooth gear change but on taking the current squeeze on a 150k A, B and motorway roads last weekend, I find that the gearbox 'bangs' into first (ie its not seamless as it used to be on previous bikes) but also up into second or third and fourth and even sometimes similar on the way down the gear change. There is full fluid, no clutch slipping and no leaks. Should I refit original part and see if that solves the problem or is there something obvious that I may be missing?

    Many thanks

  2. Check the stack height, should be 38mm + or - a fraction......and strip the plates out, clean them all off and reassemble, sounds to me like some of the plates are sticking together.....if it has an open clutch cover and hasnt been ridden in a while, the water gets in and rusts the steels, if you have an old clutch the friction plates will be steel to and the whole thing sticks together......

  3. will do many thanks.

  4. Might need bleeding too..... Try master cylinder 1st (there's a 6mm bolt submerged in the fluid) then the slave.

  5. We tried everything. Put the standard slave cylinder back on - made it worse. Swapped clutch out for a new one (just for testing) - no differences. Replaced 2 slightly warped steel plates. Cleaned everything out. No difference. I wonder is it the gear selector forks that are worn for first/second? Previous owned may have raced bike or been very sloppy with the gear change? Rgds G
