Clutch Slave Leak

  1. Hey

    Seem to have found a small leak/weep as slave side of rod is wet on the T9. Looks to be from inside the slave itself.

    Is this reparable or just get a new/replacement?

  2. I Think Evoluzione used to do super-trick replacement seals. They've gone to the wall but others must be available.
    Alternatively, use it as excuse to get an Oberon...
     
  3. I've got one of those on my M900 project engine but haven't used it yet. Quality looks good and I believe that they sell spares for them.
     
  4. Bains Racing, Silverstone carry slave kits - easy fit and quite cheap..

  6. can star type slaves be rebuilt with new seal?
    CR, Are you sure push rod o rings arent letting by engine oii?

  8. Um, not 100%.

    To be honest I didn't know engine oil would be in there. How/why would there be engine oil in that tube between the clutch slave and clutch plate?

  11. There's seals at both ends of push rod. Seal/needle roller bearing in shaft at clutch end and the 2 o rings on rod at slave end. There must be oil present to lube roller bearing. Maybe oilway hole in shaft?

  13. Yes - the genuine part. As mentioned by others there are several 'O' ring seals on the operating rod.
    Jeff Bains is a mine of information on Ducatis - check his website. I have been buying parts from him for years, far cheaper than any others.
     
  14. you are right but the hollow layshaft that it runs through spins independently of the pushrod. Nearly all pushrods spin erroneously at times, making sure the two 'O' rings are present and that the pushrod, the spigot bearing on the pressure plate and the minute roller part way along the pushrod are in good condition is the best you can do. later versions have an 'anti-spin' pin located like a split-pin through the pushrod.
     
  15. Thing i'm not getting here is why should this area have oil in? Does a little pump about when the engine is running? should it just be where the two rings on the central rod are?
     
  16. yes, just in between the 'O' rings, is the roller bearing which needs lubricating when the layshaft is spinning but (if working correctly) the pushrod isn't.
     
  17. OK, so sounds like 2 new o'rings is the way to go before spending money.
     
  18. worth checking to see if any crankcase screws need nipping up in the area adjacent to clutch slave as some tap right through into the crankcase. Also don't rule out a weeping gasket/ThreeBond joint between crankcase and sidecasing, my M900 has been weeping since I bought bike 4 months ago as haven't had time to remove and seal properly.
