Clutch Switch Not Shutting Off Engine (monster Evo)

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by chucklepie, May 31, 2014.

  1. Hello,
If I'm in gear, dropping the stand doesn't kill the engine anymore.

I can hear the microswitch clicking and I've tried it manually but when the bike is in gear it doesn't cut out.

This has only happened in the past few days. It's a 2011 Monster Evo.

Any ideas, or is this a common fault?

    Thanks.

  2. Make sure the wires are still connected, if so, use a multi-meter to check continuity of the switch when closed.

  3. the wires seem to be connected in to that weird block thing. But how exactly do you check, they're sealed up at both ends?

  4. Disconnect the sidestand switch from the loom. Set meter to diode mode. Probe the two connectors from the switch. See if the switch is working when sidestand operated.

  5. cheers, I'll see if I can figure out where the cable ends, hope it's not behind the headlight...

  6. Start with the sidestand switch not the clutch switch.

  7. Cheers, on it now.

Actually, unless it's just my paranoia and it's always been like this, when I start the engine in gear and the clutch in the bike tries to jump forward ever so much.
