Gunson 14mm Color tune with 10mm ,12 mm and 18mm adapter | eBay I'm thinking of buying one of these sets , not so much use for my fuel injected Ducati (although a good indicator of mixture being injected), but more for ease of setting mixture with carbs. Anyone used this and can recommend , especially as specialist things like this don't get used that often and work out quite expensive on a cost by use basis
Go for it, I know a few people who love these tools... though Halfords are much cheaper for this tool
I can't comment on its use on a motorcycle, but it is by far the best thing for using when setting up SU carbs on a 1972 Mini 850 ! Go for it - it will more than repay its cost : in lower fuel consumption and lower garage bills.
Peter I have used a Colourtune in the past on car engines and bike engines with good results. However one problem I foresee with the use in engines where the plugs are deeply recessed in the head, is actually being able to see what you need to see . If you see what I mean.
Good point - make sure it comes with all the relevant accesories, especially the little angled mirror that fits on the end of the black plastic tube so you can see the colours from different angles...
Also make sure if you do buy, that any adaptors that might be required will fit in your intended aperture.
Cor ! sounds to good to be true , but I have seen the video on the tube and it seems so easy . You've persuaded me . I will order when I orders. Ta Ta.
I still have one of the very first and had used on my old 1960 MK1 Frogeyed Sprite and Spitfires SU carbs to great effect performance and economy wise, a dark garage or night time is best as the colours can be seen clearly which helps you to get the correct air to fuel ratios. Mike
I had one for tuning the SU carbs on a Spitfire, I'm sure I've still got it somewhere but I've not seen it since the early 80's. Not sure what size it was but I would think it is too big for a Ducati spark plug hole...
I bought one to try and sort out the carbs on my ZXR, the problem I had was that I couldn't fit the air box and see the plugs at the same time so the mixture was always showing as lean. Make sure you can run the bike as its meant to be with the plug visible.
So could I test through the rev range with one and tweak a power commander where the bike runs rough (2-3000rpm on 900SSie) with one of these?
