Dear Computer people, I've just spent around 16 hours making this new bitch of a PC mine. Windows update Remove McAfee and install Eset. Blah blah blah.....about another 30 hours to go. Now the middle 1/3rd of the Screen has lost it's back light! Grrrrrrrrrr Do I 1/ Return it factory and get it back to them for a full refund (delivered 22nd Dec) 2/ Let them send an engineer to repair it. This is my replacement PC for the office work, my last one (DELL 2005 vintage) is running XP and Office 2000. I thought I'd be clever and replace it before the old one died. Is an AIO a good idea? For an office environment should I stick to the old box and screen separates? Any idea if you can stop Windows 10 doing an auto restart when it wants? I've a bad habit of leaving my accounts package and Excel open ready to carry on the next day.
All I've done Paul is loaded software. These things are sealed, you can't change the hardware. They look like a Mac. If press the right keystrokes it will factory reset (except may be the McAfee).
Is the LENOVO a good machine? At £1400 I thought it would be the best of the best. I worried about the long term reliability of this brand. I did my research before buying and found nothing too bad.
Maybe that's part of the process, it's shut down while it updates firmware somewhere, to reawaken when told by the processor. I'd let it run its course for a while, and if that doesn't work factory reset. Could be the software isn't compatible with one of the components, so an email to the software help desk could be worthwhile with the spec of the pc
Lenevo were the manufacturer for IBM before the latter pulled out of the pc market. Laptops are much of a muchness reliability wise, except Asus which are pants. Aio's are essentially laptops hardware wise with the exception of the screen and as such are limited in terms of component room and upgrades but they serve a purpose. I would go with a replacement if it were me. Software has no bearing of warranty by the way unless it's to over clock it or something.
I'd call their support if Google gives no answers. Re-shutdowns, is it shutting down after updates or just when left alone? don't know Win10 but these things are normally in control panel in either "power settings" or "windows update". I'd look in these. You can set the likes of Excel to auto save so you don't lose work. Help protect your files in case of a crash - Office Support
If it were mine I'd attach a second screen/monitor, if that works fine the the problem is with your machine and not anything you have done, you are only changing software so that should not affect any warrenty, DON'T let them fix it, take it back and get a replacement, if they won't do that you are well within your 14 days just ask them for your money back and go elsewhere
Sounds to me like it needs at be replaced at a minimum. I bought a Lenovo about 3 months ago, and the build quality is appalling which I found strange as I have used a lot of their HP pattern business machines and those have retained the HP build quality. One thing for sure is that I will not be buying another Lenovo. So, my advice would be to try for a refund.
Just to be annoying it's started to work again. Strange thing is that the built in hardware support and testing package seems to have been started in June this year. This may not be this machines first time out from the factory.
If your going down that route I recommend these guy's Quiet PC | Custom Built PC Specialist | Buy a PC
