Confirmation Of Difference In 848 And 1098 Wheels

  1. Searching eBay for a second set of wheels for my 748 track bike that will work with the new 1098 front end, I keep on seeing sets of wheels that boldly claim that they will fit the 848, 1098 and 1198 but I thought that the 848 has a small rear axle similar to the 748 and the 1098/1198 had the large rear axle. Is this the case or have I got it wrong - again. Andy

  2. 848 hub is smaller than 1098, so early wheels should fit that. Bought a 1098 swingarm for my 996 then realised that the wheel doesn't fit:angry:

  3. Thanks, I was begining to wonder if I was losing the plot. I have no idea how people actually sell bits when they have no idea what bike they come from. I'm only using the 1098 front end so I can refit the Ohlins to my 748R. I have a mag alloy Corse swing arm with a small axle that I'm very happy with. Andy

  4. Just to add a bit more detail:
Rear wheel: 848 wheel spindle is the same as 9*6 series. Also same as M1100. 848/M1100 wheel will fit a 9*6 series hub.
1098/1198 rear wheel spindle is larger diameter. Wheel will not fit.
9*6 wheel will not fit M1100 as M1100 brake disc is larger and calliper hits the spokes - I tried this for a track day and had to remove the caliper...but, hey, who uses that anyway?
Front Wheel: afaik, the following wheels are all the same geometry: M1100/848/1098/1198/749/999.

  5. Yeah, as others have said, the 848 is the small axle, like the 748.

  6. And didn't early 1098's come with a different Hub again
