Noticed a coolant leak on the bike whilst out today. Investigated once I got home - turns out there is a crack in the bottom of the coolant header tank, and as the pressure builds up in the system it forces water out through the crack. It's one of those yellowy polythene type tanks, like the ones on the ST series, but as this is on my Laverda I'm figuring an OEM replacement will be about as common as rocking-horse poo ! Has anyone got any idea if this sort of thing is repairable ? If so, how do I go about it ? Any advice gratefully received... Many thanks, J.R.
Guessing as its only plastic you could just give it a go but will have to be boiling hot resistant. Maybe gum gum or repair putty type stuff designed for hot surfaces? What you got to lose?
Well... if the adhesive gets out of the tank and into the system it may not do the motor much good...
Best bet is a straight replacement. Shouldn't be too expensive either. Fixing is all well and good, but if its gone once, it will go again
I have used JB Weld successfully before on an water tank for a car, but I did follow it up by replacing it as soon as I could.
Turns out replacements are available - 50Euro inc P&P... So - new tank ordered. I may have a go at repairing the old one once the new one arrives, just to see if it can be done...
