Covid Diary

  1. Thought this might be interesting/useful for some people. I'm not looking for sympathy here - just want to make a note for posterity and in the hope that it may help someone to know. Some of you might know I've been off work since 2016 with a variety of health issues, notably depression, M.E., sleep apnoea (treated with a CPAP machine that's now no good because of a recall issue), high blood pressure and tinnitus (which has been driving me mad - wear those earplugs, people!!!) and have been mainly in the house and pretty much been semi-shielding for the last 5 years, even before COVID struck. I had my second AZ jab back in May...

Thu 26th Aug - felt okay (though that's always relative) but started a tickly, dry cough. Not too bad.

Fri 27th Aug - cough continues. Still not bad.

Sat 28th Aug - still got the cough so do an 'at home' COVID test. It's negative.

Sun 29th Aug - still coughing. Feeling very tired so don't go on the rideout I'm supposed to be going on.

Mon 30th Aug - still coughing. More annoying than anything. Still not bad.

Tue 1st Sep - Coughing recedes a fair bit. Go out for the first time in months to have dinner in Gloucester. Then shopping at a supermarket on the way home (mask on).

Wed 2nd Sep - still coughing. Still not bad.

Thu 3rd Sep - feel awful. Throw up for no apparent reason. Pretty sure it's definitely not what I ate yesterday. Still coughing. Very hot day, so sweating a lot but no high temperature.

Fri 4th Sep - Still feeling a bit rough. Still coughing. Have no sense of taste or smell, so do another home test. Positive. Oh crap. Not feeling too bad.

Sat 5th Sep - book a local drive-through PCR test. Amazing service, like a military operation - they are definitely doing everything they can to protect the people there. Awesome. Come home and have a can of Coke. Very weird not tasting it. I can tell it's fizzy and a bit sweet, but that's all. Still coughing. Still feeling okay. Started this diary. Will continue to update. Test results within 2 days, apparently.

  3. Oh dear, hope that it's not too bad over the coming days. Explains why you missed the rideout. GWS.

  4. 10 days in would hopefully suggest you're likely past the worst. Regardless take it easy, plenty of fluids and get good rest.:upyeah:

  5. Shitter mate at an already shitty time. Any time you want a coffee, happy to return the favour….even if it just tastes like warm water ;) :upyeah:

  6. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I had my 3rd jab (booster) yesterday. Docs said they had surplus stocks so got special dispensation to give out boosters to clinically vulnerable like swmbo and family members, otherwise they'd have been dumping them all. And given the dept of health will be sanctioning boosters anyway it made sense to start the process early.

They'll be getting their stocks of flu vaccine next week too :upyeah:

  8. Got my booster date yesterday.

As for earplugs: the crash with the Merc I mentioned, was when - having read about the sustained decibels of motorway riding - I wore them. I crashed because I was disoriented having that familiar sense subtracted from the gestalt.

Anyway, I hope your health is improved.

  9. Get well soon, I had it last November, it wasn't pleasant, fortunately I didn't end up in Hospital but I had a couple of nights really short of breath and panicking (which makes it even worse). Stay safe mate, hopefully the vaccinations are genuinely stopping people from getting the worst of it, certainly seems so from the people at work etc getting it

  10. Thank you all for your good wishes.

My wife and I are now fully over it and our smell and taste have returned fully. In the end, I would liken it to a normal cold (except for the loss of s & t)- probably because of the jabs.

    Stay safe, everyone.

  13. Yeah this is what most of the people I know are saying who have had it since vaccination. It's a little worrying in itself though as I know people who are getting really quite complacent about it, and quite derogatory regarding those that had it before.. It sucked... It really did.. Nearly lost the old man with it, and lots of people have lost loved ones, so it's deffo something I'm always going to be aware of!
