748 Crankshaft

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Ducatidabs, Dec 30, 2017.

  1. Hi, I have a 2000 748E that thought it would be nice to break down on me a couple of months ago. The oil pressure warning light came on so I immediately called the AA to get me home. We stripped it down to find that there is slight play in the bottom conrod indicating that the crankshaft has gone. I would like to know if there is any difference between a crankshaft from a 748E and one from a 748S/R etc.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. I'm fairly sure from my research that they are the same. Rods might be different between the E and the R. You can probably use your old rods with new bearings f there is no damage to them

  3. The only difference I am aware of is the alternator end which is different on the earlier bikes with single phase alternator as opposed to the later three phase alternator.

  4. R cranks are lighter(web is smaller) then the rest of the bunch so if your using your original rods your have to get it balanced.

  5. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. Next step is to get the crank out and have a closer look at the rods. Also, does anybody know the best place to get a brembo clutch master cylinder repair kit? I believe Ducati have stopped doing them but they may be available for other manufacturers. Thanks.

  6. Part numbers and the crank assy for MY00, MY01 and MY02 E and S models are the same, as stated previously Rs have quite different cranks

  7. Thanks Denzil!
