My bike came with a datatool alarm and the fob was on the standard keyring, whilst moving the bike I noticed a slight 'stick' in the steering. On investigation the alarm fob had slipped between the tank and the steering damper and was getting crushed - not great - simple fix with a cable tie with the added advantage that it does not flap about in the breeze.
I’d be tempted to put the fob on a lanyard with the possibility to unclip the ignition key to insert it for use… those things tend to rattle about at speed.
I'd be even more tempted to get that shit removed and put it in the bin. Only time I have ever been properly stranded on a Duc was with a misbehaving datatool alarm/immob. Never again.
I would never have an alarm. Spend £400 to save £20 on insurance. So unreliable, wrecks the battery, false alarms, gets on your tits when it keeps going off. Best place for it is the bin.
Agree with comment re the datatool, had the same unit on my MT07 and it gave up, luckily in the garage. Took some time to work out how it had been spliced into the various systems to immobilize the bike but got there eventually. On the 848 it is above the exhaust ( isn't everything?) so the heat will kill it eventually - on the MT there was a junction box containing a connector and the system could be bypassed by linking out certain pins - I intend to see if the Duc has the same and prep a link plug just in case. However the path to hell . . .
If you must keep the alarm, put the fob on a long lanyard around your neck and take it off the key ring.
