Has anyone here taken a bevel starter motor apart? I just need to replace the cable, but I don't want to damage anything. The sheet steel casing has only partially separated from the body, and I don't want to damage anything. The circlip at the top of the shaft (left) has been removed. Any tips gratefully appreciated...
Looks like you are almost there ? There is a small cover on the end of the shaft, just two small screws, inside is a C clip that just slides out, you should then be able to withdraw the rotor from the stator. The sprung loaded brushes will ping inwards but they are attached by wires so cant go anywhere. If you take the tin cover with the logo on, off via 2 screws you will see the brushes and can lift the springs of them which makes it all bit easier.
Paddy, yes, almost there! The two tiny screws and the C clip were already off. There is still some resistance and I am always cautious the first time I dismantle something like this. OK, I will take the tin cover off to reveal the brushes and see how I go from there. Thanks for those words of wisdom!
