Having had my car wrecked by some d***head driving into the back of it, and having had to deal with the usual insurance hassle - I am considering getting a dash cam. Ideally I would like two views, front and rear... Does anyone have any recommendations? Anyone have any experience of using one? Is expensive necessarily better? Cheers !
I've had them for +7 years. You can get something use able for under £100 nowadays. Use the best SD card. Keep a spare in the vehicle and swap after an accident to prevent write over. Format and check often. Mine are all expensive so no recommendations.
Backvue DR 650.. comes with rear view cam as well, unobtrusive ( sits in front of rear view mirror ), easy fitted / operated , viewed throo android phone for set up / monitor,, time, date, map, gps positioning,, £300,, believe it is the best around, I have had mine for about one year,, ( cought the scumbag who broke side window and stole phones )
£650 for a super high quality unit. I'll put up some models tomorrow. Main van has full central Dvr, quad screen, sound and 8 cams. I carry a lot of stuff and park in some really tight spaces.
Unfortunately Fig, yes it has... Insurance company actually asked me if I had any film of the accident... The fact that the MPC who attended has reported the other driver for "without due care and attention" should at least mean that there's not much question of liability - hopefully !
I have no personal experience and apologies if you're already aware of this, but there is an extensive discussion elsewhere. If you work backwards, last thread first, you may gain some further helpful info. Dash Cameras - PistonHeads
From experience, unfortunately being run up the back by another motorist is no longer straight forward. The stupid twat who overtook me as I turned right and hit the rear of my car lied through his teeth and without witnesses the insurer appointed solicitor advised me not to go to court and if I did and lost, I'd be liable for all costs. After more than a year I recovered 80% of my non insured losses because my insurer considered me 20% at fault despite doing nothing wrong. Bitter ? You bet I am and I too have considered an on board black box usually fitted to reduce insurance costs for young drivers and cameras. The rear view mirror mounted two way facing camera was featured on a Gadget Show programme several years ago and got a good rating. Good luck mate. Andy
sad you may be about that particular aspect of modern society,,, but the accident scenario is only a small part of the possible use for a dash cam,,, it is a recording media which has many and varied uses.
oh, excuse the similarity,, but do you suspect that Michael Schumaker was wearing his head mounted cam to record if some twat ran into the back of him on the ski slope ..
Well, so far all I can think of is recording crashes, recording your scintillating commute to work, or filming yourself shagging the missus alfresco. Anything I've missed..?
Shall we start a thread of interesting or bad driving? Video footage? I've got some beautiful examples of late lane or changes of direction and the aftermath. Being slightly higher in a van gives a great view. I wonder if there are any legal ramifications? I know there is a raft of legal stuff on CCTV on a fixed premises e.g. you can't look at your neighbouring windows or gardens (they are all mingers around here). Not sure on car cams?
basically I think you have all the important ones !!!, but you could also film the beautiful trip you made up throo Glen Coe . or the lake district, or over London Bridge ( for those who don't do it every day ), chatting up the " ladys " down by Euston ,, up the Champ Elysee, round Circuit Paul Ricard,, your son playing foorball, going to view a proprerty etc etc.. ii didn't mention the bad driving one,, of no interest to me..
Yep lets all fit them. That way, when you overtake someone safely on an A road when they are doing 60, you get a summons. God forbid anyone actually does something really bad, like tap a white line at the end of broken or, dare I say, cross a white line a little to open a corner up where, for a bike, its clearly safe to do so. Ban em, burn em, take away other peoples joy. One persons view of bad driving btw is anothers fully in control and expecting the unexpected...watch a police car in pursuit for clear evidence of that
Btw on a van or workhorse they are a good idea, with ever larger cars and smaller gaps its easy to see why things get scuffed And videoing lovely scenery why not, we do that on bikes Its just the intent of the use of the reocrding. I know someone who sends his to the police if 'he thinks' it should be
Humour value on the bad driving video. God forbid someone else was to judge us? I mean... over taking, without any warning, while only on the back wheel (wheely). The rider must clearly be in complete control of the bike...and can only be a riding god. And in no way would this action cause concern to any other driver or rider near by. Even if everyone else was following the designated lead bike to the next way point..... By the way this is meant as a joke. And he knows who it is aimed at.
" overtaking without warning on the back wheel " what do you mean by that,,,, do you mean following throo closely on someones back wheel when overtaking, or what ?
