At the weekend my Tom Tom 450 died on me. I put a route in Saturday night and turned it off, next morning went to switch it on - nothing! It just won't power up - on or off the bike. I've been in touch with the company I bought it from and they told me to contact Tom Tom directly under warranty which I will be doing. Luckily I kept my old 400 so I can use that for now. I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen? One thing it did highlight to me is just how much we come to rely on gadgets these days. I was at Mallory Park, about 150 miles from home and suddenly had to use my brain and road signs to find my way home For a moment or two I felt a little lost without my little picture telling me where to go
My TomTom Go 510 has just died after two years of service. Wouldn't update maps and then during a full reset, just died. Really irritating. Replaced with a Garmin, will see how I get on with that. I hated Garmin last time I had to use one.
I have a Tom Tom that have failed recently too, though the problem must be software as the screen etc all lights up. I've tried reloading to software/ update but no luck. Apparently you can send them back and Tom Tom fix them for a fee. I haven't got around to it yet.
Mine came back to life today! I spoke to Tom tom and they said occasionally they do just go blank with no life, and if they do, hold the start button down for up to 30 seconds usually re boots it. I didn't have to try that as mine just switched on this morning, showing a red battery sign. So maybe I just drained the battery and it needed some time to get going again. Still doesn't really add up though as it wouldn't turn on at all the day before???
you can usually pull them apart and replace the battery...ive done a few...not that model though but no reason why you can...on some occassions you can get higher capacity batteries too...
Why have you got to send it to Tomtom when you didn't buy it off them directly. Had this argument at an Argos branch where I'd bought it from, they ended up giving me a new one.
Might just need a hard reset, I have a 390 and sometimes it seems to go to sleep and won’t boot up. The reset procedure is as below : Master Reset 1 Turn off the Zumo and disconnect any power cable from the unit. 2 Hold down your finger in the lower-right corner of the screen. 3 Hold the "Power" button, releasing it only after the Zumo turns on. 4 Release your finger from the lower-right corner of the screen after a "Do you really want to erase all user data?" message appears. 5 Tap "Yes."
Thanks, but your talking about a Garmin aren't you? Mine's a Tom Tom. Tom Tom said if this happens hold the start button down for up to 30 seconds and it should re-start. Sounds like a similar fix to what you described. Anyway mine started up again and has stayed working, so hopefully all is good now.
