1200 Decat Install Advice Please

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Loverobot, Oct 29, 2015.

  1. I am about to install the decat (plus baffle) on my MTS1200 GT
I have read that potentially there can be a problem with removing the headers in the sense that sometimes the studs come out or break
it is a very clean bike; about 10-month-old with 2000 miles on the clock and looks like there is no crud to worry about
Any particular things to look out for / do to prevent a problem?

  2. I literally done mine the other day bud. Are you fitting stock exhuast?
I tried to do mine without removing front header pipe (impossible). I just loosened the front header pipe in the end but save yourself a job and just remove it. I had no issue with my header bolts, nearly two yr old bike and didn't even wd40 them. I would suggest new gasket though. How are you solving the servo issue?

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. Great - didn't understand why the header bolts appeared to be so bad -
Its a leo vince decat so comes with a weighted cam - looks fiddly but a good solution for the servo
Fitting stock exhaust to leo vince decat with an internal baffle
    Thanks

  4. Give the front header studs a thorough and prolonged soaking in WD40 or similar. Make sure you have spanners or sockets to access the nuts well. I had a new gasket plus three new studs and nuts standing by ready to replace the old ones. The studs tend to come out with the nuts.

  5. Exactly what I did Tuesday mate. Quite an easy job. But at the mo my stock exhuast isn't going on. I have emailed Gbmoto to ask advice.
The servo weight isn't that bad to get on. I undid the rear sub frame and raised it an inch. Then there is just one bolt holding servo in. I didn't remove the servo completely as wouldn't fit, so I just pushed it back and put the weight on in the little gap 10min job. My advice is to make sure the inside of the weight is filled down as where they drill the hole it leaves swarf and doesn't fit well.

  6. Thanks
Can you post up what GBMoto say re the end can fitment and how you got round it?
    Cheers

  7. Yes at the minute they said give the inlet a good clean with solvent as carbon deposits can make it hard to seat and a little lubricant (high temp grease).
I'm going to entertain this as I haven't tried it but I used a large amount of force, including wooden block and hammer. So I recon it woulda gone if it was just binding. So I will give wat they say, a go and will measure the exhuast inlet join and Leo Vince locating pin to outlet edge, to see if they match. Won't get round to it till after the weekend though.
So let me know how you get on with it if you do it before then.
    Cheers

  8. Actual email from GBmoto:
    Hi Josh,
I suggest you undo and remove the stock silencer, check the mating surfaces are clean so you are able to slide and move exhaust onto the LeoVince pipe - if exhaust seems to stick then chances are your stock exhaust is full of exhaust carbon and needs cleaning out. Use paraffin and old rags, then if necessary smooth out pipe connections with some abrasive paper. This is something that happens a lot with used exhaust pipes.
Not sure what you mean about "baffle in and out, no joy" .. please explain !
    Regards, Bob
