899 Delaying 12k Km Service

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by JRosc, Jun 6, 2022.

  1. Hey everyone just a quick question, you recon there are any issues if I bring my bike in at say 13k km instead of 12k Km, as I’m outside of the country right now and exactly at 12k. I would do it as I come back home and I think it will be around 13k

    cheers

  2. I’m sure it won’t make any difference. Get it done when you get home though :)

  3. Does it have full dealer service history?

  4. No there is no service history on this Panigale that I own, but I would like to start the electronic one with Ducati database. Would this delay on service make it impossible for them to mark the 12k service?

  5. Can't see that it would. The fact that as far as you know, the bike has no service history, won't make any difference if the next service is carried out a bit later than is set down by Ducati.
Has Ducati dealer confirmed that the bike has no service history? They can check if it's been to a Ducati dealer for any work by checking their data base.

  6. They said they basically seen the bike once, for 600 km service if I recall correctly and another time to do the seals on the engine (apparently pretty normal for bike standing for a long time). But that was before the electronic system, which is surprisingly quite recent.

To add another question to this, I have found a local Moto Guzzi (and some other bikes) dealer that said they can do 24k KM desmo service, and offered better price than my Ducati dealer. I'm thinking for the future what I will go with, would you ever go with non ducati dealer for the desmo service, if they say they can do it? I thought you need quite a few special tools that only Ducati dealers have?

  7. Hi there,
Ducati only started keeping digital records a couple of years ago so even if it had been serviced if the owner didn't keep the records it would be difficult unless you knew which one he had used and ask for their records! An independent specialist should have the required special tools needed, unlikely that a "normal" garage would but might be worth asking them if they have before you commit?

  8. This may sound a little 'blunt', but on your first question, just ring a dealer and ask them.

On the Desmo service, I would use an independent, but only one familiar with Ducati. When I tried recently, they were all booked months in advance, so squeezed in at the dealers within a couple of weeks.
