1200 DES Pre-Load fault

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by **Topher**, Apr 13, 2014.

  1. Any body had this fault.
It showed up on mine then disappeared after a restart.

  2. I had it on my 2010, it needed a new ECU for the DES, if you are out of warranty you could get the ohlins semi active upgrade for a lot less than the ducati part.

  3. +1, happened to mine. Eventually it will not be fixed by a restart. I did a 4k mile trip with it stuck in Sport, before getting the repair.

New Ohlins OE ECU around £800(ish).

  4. 1) If the bike is still in warranty Ducati will replace the Ohlins ECU without argument.....well known issue.
    2) If out of warranty, with the support of your Dealer a 'good will' replacement will still most likely be possible.....again because it's a well known issue.

Otherewise......Ohlins Semi-Active upgrade SCU but there was a rumour a while back that Ohlins were going to stop production of the upgrade semi-active SCU so if that's the route you want to Topher I would make enquiries now.
Alternatively a second hand OE / standard Ohlins is fairly easy to acquire, they come up on eBay from time to time..........I have one sat in a drawer (it was a warranty replacement but I went for the SCU upgrade), not decided at this point if I want to sell though.

  5. Whooo dangle that carrot Mr W

  6. Contacted Riders about this as my Multi has just started to identify the fault code sporadically.
I've asked them to contact Ducati to rectify the developing problem as it appears to be very well known to Ducati and as some on this site have said, 'it is only a matter of time before the ECU fails as a result', I am hoping they will fix it as a gesture of goodwill. :Stop:
With the bike heading towards 4 years old, well out of manufacturers' warranty, BUT only circa 5k miles....Just a baby in reality, so fingers crossed!! :Wtf:

  7. 5K! OMG do you only ride it on January 29th?

  8. JCM: Not quite slightly more than that :Stop:
The bike had only done 800 miles when I bought it a little under two years ago, so your January 29th 'thought' may well have applied then :Jawdrop:

Time is limited so I get out when I can, family commitments means less than preferred, but there we are!
The forthcoming trip to Belgium will add some more miles to it, then perhaps I could actually break the 5k barrier, who knows........

Must go February the 1st beckons

  9. Bit of a long shot but here goes.
Does anyone have a failed standard Ohlins SCU from a 2010/12 Multi hanging about? If so are you willing to donate it for a good cause? PM me if you have. :upyeah:

  10. I'm not one for containing my curiosity!.........what can be done with a dead/faulty ECU?....you're thinking it may be repairable??

  11. NO donations as I intend refitting it when I sell the bike, but if you come here you can borrow it (while on site) for elimination purposes.
Further I've a completely serviced and tested electronic rear shock for sale (standard spring)...sensible money only.

  12. Everything is repairable, it's just if its cost effective.
My worry would be opening it and resealing.

Surely the most likely fault would be the pre-load motor as this is the moving part.

  13. Short answer is no. PM sent

  14. I just bought a mst today (2010) 5000 miles. Changed from sport to touring and this fault code came up! Will be one the phone in the morning.
