Looking to add a Sat Nav Zumo XT2 (or 3 out soon) to the DX. Ducati sell their own version of the Zumo XT2, it's actually the same unit, but with the word Ducati on for an additional £150 or so! Looking at the connection of the device (Ducati), it does look like there's a wire already installed on the DX and the connection is fairly simple operation by removing the screen, adding the Ducati Sat Nav bracket, plugging in and away you go. It looks like the Ducati version has a different electrical connection wire to the Zumo one when you look at the what's in the box video's for the Zumo version. Has anyone managed to connect a standard Zumo XT2 in the Ducati version way? It appears to be a bit of a choice as to ease of connection or pay more and wire in a different way? I'm not very technical btw. Apologies if this has been discussed before, I did do a search but didn't come up with anything. Cheers
I’m not familiar with the Desert X but have the Garmin XT2 fitted to my V4 Pikes Peak. The Ducati pre wired sat nav loom has a blanking plug that has a short length of wire covered in heat shrink. I stripped back the heat shrink and soldered the Zumo wiring to it. Did the same on my first gen 1200 Multistrada which had the same style of pre wiring. I have a spare somewhere so will try and post a picture. Andy

@Light Buzzyear, a word of caution, you will need a digital volt meter to make sure the bike’s +ve and -ve match the Garmin’s. My first attempt on my 1200 Multistrada failed miserably Andy
Just looked at the new Garmin Zumo XT3, https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/1904331/ and ………. oh dear ! Big difference is the full integration of the sat nav with the Garmin Tread app which, given my experience of the app paired to the XT2, has put me off changing. Also not sure I want a dedicated sat nav to show me lean angles, lap times and off the line drag start data If you regularly ride with a group, who also have the Tread app, being able to see where the other riders are, could be useful but my preference would be the Sena app for keeping in contact when you are out of line of sight.
