Any of you DD16RR owners out there...can you tell me what they come with as std, and things to watch out for? A friend of mine has been offered one and wants to know a few things before committing to buy.....thanks in anticipation guys......
Should come with the following as standard:- Battery charger (Ducati corse) Paddock stand bike cover race exhaust and ecu if not fitted or vice versa road system with ecu and cat graphics kit DDA plaque with owners name and serial number (this came months after purchase) Not many known issues Rectifier can fry itself loom can be cut near headstock as it runs past a sharp edge of carbon engine - return springs of some natural fail
Thankyou for that Jon, I understand that the spring issue was dealt with by recall and the bike in question has been sorted........
Earlier ones (up to around #500 ish) I believe also had issues with throttle bodies and springs in the Desmo system, but most of those issues seem to have been reported by our US cousins.
wasn't there a recommended accessory for some bikes? An optional oil tanker to follow you around?? Might be wrong.
Fuel consumption isn't really any worse than a lot of "Superbikes", it just feels like it 'cos of the crap tank range (50-60 miles). In terms of running costs fuel is the least of your probs, don't get me started on tyres !
no, not a petrol tanker, an oil tanker : ) If any bike needed a petrol tanker following behind, it would be the S4Rs. Dismal range.
DOH, must learn to read. Mine uses a bit of oil ( more than the 998), but not too bad, although I did need to top up last year whilst at Silverstone, and you could see people looking on and thinking " bloody unreliable Ducatis".
This what I was referring to, although they weren't numbered in order of manufacture strangely, the first one delivered in the UK and probably globally to a friend of mine was I think number 126, no others came into the UK for a few months
Did wonder about the numbering bit, but everything I've read where there were issues, do seem to be in the 500 or lower, but as I say mostly from US, so maybe they had a particular batch ?
I think that most of the issues here have been caught, and in many ways, if you buy a bike now the friday afternoon specials seem to have already imploded. A fair few dropped valves in the first year or so the bike was released, which wrote off the engine, and I saw another two where the timing gear had failed, but mine has been faultless and most owners I know of have had no issues whatsoever. Ducati replaced or rebuilt most of these engines - but the wait for parts irritated a lot of owners, and some then sold. Most of the people I know have also tracked them extensively, with no issues (other than self inflicted crashes)...... I have to say, other than the 70ml tank range, and the fact it drinks a bit of oil (250ml a day if used hard), this bike has been more reliable than many other more standard ducatis (including my 848). They do consume rear tyres, so you really need to swap out to a 17" rear to have some tyre options, or you will run out of those BT01's pretty quickly. Great bikes. Take some learning to ride, and they can bit you hard if you aren't careful, but they are simply awesome to ride. I love mine. 14k miles and going strong..... I will warn your friend they are also very sensitive to setup. That frame is so stiff that there isn't a lot of compliance in the bike, so suspension, ride height and tyre choice all affects the bike a significant amount more than most street bikes. Get the GP system (unless it has it already) and get the boys at JHP to set it up with a PCV. Perfect fuelling and 200bhp at the wheel. With soooooo much more midrange. Traction Control from Comp Systems is also nice.
