  5. Thats neat. Do you have one fitted Anth?

  6. No but my m8 uses one and I've seen it in use when we're out...they're great looking, appear strong and feel it too, but expensive.

That will be what I replace my current one with when I need to.

  7. Eek eek! Additional unsprung weight - a great evil!

I use (now and again - bike theft isn't such a problem here) an Abus Granit disc lock.

From what I read when I researched the whole thing about 10 years ago (yes), the most you can expect from a disc lock is 7 minutes. Most of them are about 7 seconds. The Abus survived 7 mins before the testers broke it (with an angle grinder, I suppose).

It's this one here: Lockitt.com ABUS Granit 37 Quick Power Brake Disc lock

Most disc locks are a complete waste of space. The Granit isn't especially convenient, but it's less inconvenient than having your bike nicked.
Of course, this isn't really protection. It doesn't exist. If they want it, they'll take it. But you don't want to give it up to a couple of hoodies with a hammer.

  8. He's touring bloody Europe....not entering a GP, or he would have to leave the tail pack and tank bag off to get through scrutineering.:upyeah:

  9.

Expense aside for what is essentially a fit and forget lock can't really go wrong. I'd seen them before but had forgotten about them and lets face it £200 might seem like a lot but against the cost of replacing the bike should the worst happen its not a lot

  10. Glid....as you say if they want it, they'll have it. Prolly by lifting it into the back of a van and seeing to the lock at their convenience.

But anything we/the manuacturers can do to deter these scrotes, has got to be worth it.

  11. Bike security does seem to be more a case get them to nick someone else's that has a bit less security fitted than you do

  12. It's like what they say about avoiding getting eaten by lions. You don't have to run faster than the lion, just faster than the slowest person you're with.

  13. :upyeah:

  14. The Motrax Vishas got the best rating for a disc lock in a Ride test a few years ago, £40 and it is easy to use (i have had one for 4 years) but it won't stop the bike getting lifted into a van

  15. (ignore disclock, unbolt disc, ziptie disc to forkleg, ride bike away...)

If you have hard luggage (Vicar) I would suggest a small-size chain would be a greater deterrent? Chain the bike to something? Off the ground, or its easy to push down on boltcroppers...

  16. Thanks everyone your advice is appreciated. :upyeah:

  17. With the Roadlok you can't even do that.....unless you unbolt the caliper too, because the wheel doesn't move at all when locked so the disc bolts behind the fork cannot be accessed.

It would still go in the back of a tranny van tho! :frown:

  18. Roadlok just ordered. Cheers Anth. Im typically leaving everything till the last min. Go a week on Tuesday
