I'm away for a few months and unable to rotate my optimates round my various bike batteries. Am I better off disconnecting the batteries?
Yes. Even with the ignition off there will still be a small drain of up to around 5mA or even more for some bikes. Disconnecting the batteries will alleviate this but the batteries will self discharge anyway and it would be best to have them charged at least 3 monthly.
You could take the batteries out of the bikes, connect them together in Parallel, and connect the optimate to the bank of batteries, but you run the risk of overloading the Optimate, and your bikes still won't have any power.
I'm 'only' away for 2 1/2 months so they should be fine disconnected, wouldn't want to come back to a burnt down house ( they're in the cellar)
