As above really, does the Ducati Multistrada 1260 have a Din battery charging socket or do you have to connect to the battery if you want to install a optimising charger?
Best connection point is via the diagnostics port under the seat. Optimate do a specific Ducati to SAE connection lead. Cheaper if you search "Optimate 047 lead" elsewhere.
I've always fancied utilising the accessory socket on the RH side of the dash. I don't use it and it would be very convenient. I'm sure it's possible, but after the tank debacle over the weekend, I'm not keen to remove it again and I'm assuming to do it correctly, it would need to come off.
Of course you can just use the supplied connection lead direct to the battery terminals. The DIN sockets are switched with the ignition, certainly the one on the dash is, not so sure about the one under the seat, so I doubt that they would work.
That's what I did and I never had to remove the tank to do it. I can't remember exactly what I did but if I remember correctly, I followed the wiring back the the point under the saddle, where it reaches a switched contact, removed it and rewired it to the battery.
I just connected the optimal cable to the battery in the end, on my Tiger 900 you could plug the cable straight into a DIN socket at the rear of the bike, just wondered in <ultimate was similar.
I took the tank off to replace the front brake switch, but you’re probably right, you could route a lead to the battery with the tank in place.
