Do you get any "perks" at work?

  1. Now, don't get me wrong, we all have stressfull jobs but sometimes you have to weigh it all up and think, this isnt too bad after all. The trouble is you tend to take it all slightly for granted.

I'm off to Tenerife for a 5 day fully expensed trip which is dressed up as a customer golf trip but you could insert "stag do" and it would give you an idea of what its like. Each year we take top customers away and its Tenerife this year. Great 5* hotel, foods a bit poncy for my liking but hey!, plenty booze and doesn't cost a penny.

Isuppose it makes up for the weeknights when I have to stay away in lonely hotel rooms (cue violins) or travelling the length of the country.

My mates say I'm a lucky git but what perks are out there in other jobs?

  4. You must be joking, self employed joiner and all i get is how much !!! and rairly get a thank you.

  5. Sticky, sounds like we have similar roles, possibly different industries.

I too have customers nationwide, from Inverness to St Austell, and stay away on business. But I do get nice hotels and fully expensed evenings out.

One of my best customers owns Drum, the yacht previously owned by Simon Lebon and used in the Duran Duran, Rio video. My customer arranges supplier trips on the yacht with 2 or 3 days sailing around the English / Scottish and Ireland coast. All paid for by my customer, I'm on the next trip out

  6. I dont have to answer to anyone and I am always late

  7. Yes mate. Sounds the same. I look after the UK in a sales role. Can't remember the last time I paid for a meal out. I'm rarely at home in the week so the bills are minimal too. Now, the ex wife...thats one of my biggest expenses :smile:

  8. I,m a boatbuilder and get to travel a lot ,in the past year I have been to~ Malta ,Gibraltar ,turkey, morocco (twice),Caribbean,(Antigua) and Portugal, all for about a week or ten days all fully expended ,it is very interesting seeing the different places but customers are very demanding, take the rough with the smooth I suppose!
    Gav.

  9. Get to lick the boots of my CEO shiny every few weeks if that counts

  10. bp give me the odd free coffee so does starbucks ,also nandos give some discount and hein gerike, i'm a cop, used to be more but not these days

  11. Work for my self, so the best perk is being able jump on the bike on a sunny mid week day and go for a blast.

  12. In the Royal Navy so been all over the world. Great perk really but getting tired of so much time away from home after 22 years of it!

Just took 10 members of the RN Motorcycle Club away to Wales for 4 days, practicing some "advanced" riding techniques, which was an amazing Perk.

  13. Sometimes, I am graced with the oppourtunity to come home from work on time and not lathered in grease/paint dust/shotblasting glass/general shitty grime.

I did also get to drive to Crete for business purposes a couple of weeks ago.

  14. Little ferry told me you get more than that? Point 8 towards end of it MPS Benefits ;) Volunteering - MET specials

  15. As much coffee as I want? That's about it.
A bit of change from last job with cruises around the Western Isles, visits to distilleries and 5 star hotels.
A change from working for a company with 35'000 employees to one with 10.

  16. Short commute - less than 10 miles.
Live in a very small village, work in a fairly small village, so I never have to drive/ride in a town or city.
See the Red Arrows perfecting their displays from my desk.

  17. Absolutely priceless that is

  18. I'm also a sales guy ( automatic transfer switches ) and get some nice meals etc as most of my customers are in London, best trip was a sales conference in a top hotel right on the seafront in barcelona. Wife came to so work stuff in the day and nice times in the evening. Also had to go to lake maggiore for a few days and spent 10 days near New York. Got taken to an ice hockey match one night and a broadway show on the Saturday, plus really good restaurants every night. And a nice company car and bupa so not bad at all. Shame customers get in the way

  19. I get free Marmite and butter and sometimes other things last week hundreds and thousands.

I sit with one of our Autistic children to have lunch.
She likes me so she likes to grab hold of my hair or ears and kiss the top of my head!!!
Its her way of expressing her fondness of me !
Trouble is I get my hair coated in butter , marmite and all sorts!!
