Do You Tow A Caravan/trailer/folding Camper/trailer Tent In Europe ?

  1. Just been reading on another forum, some European states are targeting any driver towing a trailer over 750kg gross weight that is not displaying a trailer registration plate. In the UK, trailer registration is only mandatory for commercial trailers over 750kg gross weight (and all non commercial trailers over 3.5 tonnes, gross weight). A voluntary trailer registration system was launched by the DVLA in August last year, for people towing in Europe. Guidance here, https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...registration-numbers-and-number-plates-inf291 and registration process here, https://www.gov.uk/register-trailer-to-take-abroad. The system might be voluntary but it will cost you £26 plus the cost of the trailer registration number plate. Just checked the gross weight of my Pennine folding camper and I’ll need to register it to drive to Assen later this year. It occurred to me that some robust 2 or 3 motorcycle trailers with bikes loaded could also fall foul of this bureaucracy. Andy
