Dodgy Dash On 848 Sb

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bettes, Feb 4, 2015.

  1. Evening all.
Went to start the bike this evening after work, having had it on the optimate for the last couple of days. The bike started but the battery struggled to turn it over. It got up to temperature after a while and everything seemed normal.
Revved it a couple of times then the dash lights started to flicker a little. It seemed to get worse over the next few minutes with the dash going blank for a second or two then coming back to life. The voltage was going up and down form 14.4 to 15.5 V. I haven't disturbed anything on the bike which could have caused this recently and if it makes any difference, the bike is stored in a well ventilated room at about 17 degrees.
Think it's either the VR or the battery (which I think maybe the original).
    Has anybody had this happen?

  4. Thanks for the replys... Didn't realise it would start to act up like that...
Bollocks, Chris, where's the best place to look for one and what are your plans for the weekend? :p

    Thanks, Ian

  5. Ebay is a good source. Get a second hand unit from a Kawa ZX10R, Triumph D675 or ones from Ducatis are creeping onto the market. You then need the wiring loom from Triumph. Watch the video. I'm about all weekend.

  6. Thanks, mate. I wonder... Would the race bikes I showed you, have had these looms and R/R removed from them? ;)

  7. No idea.

  8. I'll have a scan about tomorrow. Never know, could be in luck...

  9. Just to say a massive thanks to @chrisw. He not only found the R/R with link cables for a 955i for an unbelievable price, but went and ordered it as well. He has helped me out a few times now as he has many on here. Top bloke!

  10. The culprit! Since going to upgrade to the mosfet one though.

  11. image.jpg image.jpg New R/R fitted. Doddle to fit, just need 4 longer bolts. 2 for the R/R and 2 for the ecu. The mosfet is a bit bigger so the ECU needs to come out about 10mm to compensate. New connectors fitted by ChrisW and ready to go. Thanks mate :upyeah:
