Dolomites ideas

  1. I am looking for suggestions for 'must do' places and good roads/scenery in the Dolomites. We have (me and GF) booked the ferry to Rotterdam and stay one night in Worms (honest), then via Black Forest and the B500 one night in Goldfau (Switzerland). After that we plan to head in to the Italian mountains.
Maybe via Davos (and 'that' road:upyeah:) and down towards Bormio and Stelvio national park. Maybe a maximum of 3 days in that area before heading back up. Lake Garda?..or just stay in the mountains?
Also this will be last week July, start of August. Is accommodation easy enough to find in this part of Italy?

    Cheers in advance

  2. I've said it before and I'll probably say it again:

When I did the Dolomites (taking advice from the book) it was blazingly hot. Up in the mountains, it was still quite pleasant, but as I rode down the valley to Riva del Garda, it was like riding into an oven. I found a Dainese store and bought a couple of t-shirts (and would later return to buy a set of ventilated leathers). As I stood talking to the salesman, sweat trickled down by nose and started to create a small puddle on the floor (I was wearing leathers at the time). When I left I asked him directions to any hotels with swimming pools and ended up in a grand place by the lake with dark cool rooms, high ceilings and a pool in the grounds. Sod the expense for a couple of days I thought.

So if you do stay in Riva, make sure your hotel has a pool.

  3. Yeah, makes me laugh at my 1st France trip. Blazing sun in the sky down near Grasse and my mate done up like a banana in one piece Alpinestars to match his yellow R1. Man we laughed, we were cooking ....but not like him lol
I have sampled the temperature differences and I wont be wearing leathers!
