there you go, as many corrupt lairds as there is lords. never doubted it. covers it all really, police brutality, corrupt government. greed.
Thats always been the way fin. After all the clearances were by the lairds. Culloden was basically a civil war with many lairds and scottish mercenaries on the english side. We have often been the architects of our own misery. Which is why I dread a Yes vote. Which will also make me a foreigner in my own home. But Trump can get tae fuck. Hes a yank not a scot
totally only a Scott can screw a Scott. you wont be a stranger down there, i have seen you marching up and down in yer red coat.
theres a lot of jacobite history round my way. if yer interested read the appin murder. james of the glen was born in me back garden almost.
Jacobite were a tad too catholic for me. I'm an athiest/agnostic type and therefore Proddie is closer as its less intrusive. That and theres an awful lot of Calvinism in my family tree. I'll give it a looksee though. Read 'How Scotland Invented the Modern World' - fascinating. Our wee shit hole is responsible for some astonishing achievements. I'm afraid I see the British Isles as British. All of us. Together. Fighting. Makes you wonder how we ever conquered the world. I worry for our country. Seriously. I'd like to bang our collective heads together.
i just dont want to be told what i can do in my own back yard with polices tailored for us . no anti English in me
Thats what devolution is supposed to do Fin, but Salmond and that lot have purposely fucked that up in order to promote his own agenda. John Smith would be spinning in his grave. Plus sometimes you have to give for the majority. Thats democracy. Its a fact that London is teh engine room. Not Glasgow. Theres more people in London than the whole of Scotland.
when it comes to politics, more is less. we have no influence we cant make a difference.you a are totally right more people in london influencing every thing north of oxford.
Thats the failure of democracy. The majority wins and the minorities are disenfranchised. But until a viable alternative appears we are stuck with it. What Scotland needs to do is bring back the heavy industry. Look at the asian countries and outperform them. The skills are there in the DNA of every scotsman. We're engineers and builders, inventors and philosophers. We need to put the bottle down, shrug of our chip and knuckle down to it. We're in a bit of a rut. If independence delivers this then fine. But we also need to take responsibility and stop blaming the english. A large share of our misfortune is of our own making. Parliament adds to it by its policies that try to look after the wealth generators. Finance. If Scotlands exports of heavy industry started to challenge this, then policy would be more favourable. You can hardly blame policy that helps get the money in. I'd prefer Scotland to knuckle down first and be successful prior to independence. To me it just looks like a knee jerk reaction in the hope that things get better. England wouldn't be england without Scotland and vice versa. Its very much like a sad divorce. My vote would be No. But I don't get any say in the most important question my country faces in over 300yrs. How is that fair? Overnight I will become an immigrant or a refugee in my own home. As a Jock you know how this would make you 'feel' fin. It hurts.
the days of heavy industry are over, how can you compete with country's that pay a bowl of rice a day with little or no health and safety. i don't sense the chip on shoulder thing of old, more and more people north and south of the boarder are feeling disenchanted with politics and politicians witch is a bad thing, you like me and every one on this forum feel totally remote to the goings on of Westminster. now in uk elections i was a liberal/ labour voter but what became very obvious to me even when labour held the majority (traditionally the Scottish vote) the south and south east held the cards, no good to me so over a period of time you think to your self whats the point of even getting involved witch only leaves the party faithful and extremist numptys in control. a very bad thing. now whats the first thing every one shouts when any organization utility or other gets too powerful and starts ignoring its customers in the interests of its share holders?. so what i am calling for is a Scottish parliament with full control over policy, working in the interests of the scots (one t) and the entire freeking world. (i know what i sound like, a poor old arse.). meh.
Hold on, you can claim to speak for "everyone on this forum" if you like, but I can say, "No you don't".
