Dover Ferry Crossing

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Roadtrip, Jul 13, 2015.

  1. Got a Road trip to Sarlat/France coming up and has anyone used Dover to Calais last week if so was it ok or still big delays, i have looked at Dunkirk but seems fully booked for our time scale and a bad service, taking my van not a bike,
Still hear that there is a lot of lorries stacked up on the motorway.

  2. If it's Sarlat your talking about, then the Normandy crossings land you in a much a better location so that you can drop south immediately .

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. Been looking Portsmouth with an overnight crossing but time it takes to get to Portsmouth its quicker for us from Dover, have checked dover website but not much info,

  4. Where are you based?

  5. Check his avatar ;)

  6. Essex, M25/Dartford tunnel then M2/A2 straight forward journey.

  7. We are currently sat 15k from Sarlat on family hols, take your sun cream it's roasting and getting hotter.

  8. Hi Drinky
Sun cream packed and my Speedo's ready, just got to do my bikini line :D I've been there before and you must do the Kayaking at Sarlat its bloody fantastic.

Booked going out of Dover now and should be coming back via Calais has there as been some progress there today.

  9. We came via the tunnel on Friday, Op Stack was in situ but only junc 8-9 which gave us about 20 mins on the A20. Lots of lorries queueing at the tunnel terminal though. Calais side there were trucks everywhere as it seems it's every man for them selves when the port is closed/disrupted. That said no trouble getting away from Calais at all.

  10. Cheers Drinky :upyeah:

  11. It is so good that you can walk from one side of the Dordogne river to the other on plastic boats full of tourists!
Now if you look 20 miles north on the Vezere river you can also kayak, but with about 50% less tourists and you can see the real Perigord rather than the tourist areas.
Back to the question, I use the Newhaven/Dieppe on my trips back to the UK (every 3 years) as it tends to be less busy and saves a few miles on this side.
Diesel is €1.18 (£0,83) per litre at the moment so the miles don't matter that much in a car anyway.

  12. Cheers Bob T
Looking forward to my Duck sausage dinner :upyeah:

  13. Just make sure that you get in touch and I'll pop over with a bottle of Pecharmant and that is a wine that you won't get in the UK as we tend to keep it for ourselves!

  14. That sounds a good idea Bob ,i'm not a wine person myself but the wife is very keen, staying about 20min walk into town but we take couple of old bikes to cycle there or park the van up a lane and walk the last bit,

  15. Sounds like Dover is having problems again. Might be worth keeping an eye on the travel news, I joined that Twatter thing and got updates from Kent Police and Eurotunnel, sure the ferry companies and Dover will do the same thing?

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  16. Mrs Roadtrip has joined the Police and Dover port sites for updates, mentioned that today Hgv are stacking on the M20 and cars should use the M2/A2, Booked to come home from Dunkirk.

  17. Seems to be a bit of hit and miss at the ports, sometimes they are delayed about 60 mins then good for a couple of days, will find out on Wednesday :Nailbiting:

  18. Got across ok :upyeah:
Dover was the same as normal but bad for hgv, one of the roads by the Tunnel was being repaired as the strikers had melted the tarmac by setting fire to a pile of tyres then got held up at Rouen as the farmers had blocked a few roads but found another route.

  19. I have a flexi ticket Calais or Dunkirk for an 8pm crossing wednesday, glad it's not the tunnel as migrants seem to be running riot and have to dodge the farmers on the way, time I get back I will need a holiday.

  20. Well got back ok, but feel very sorry for the lorry driver's as the que for the Tunnel was very long with migrants walking around the road junction looking for an opportunity to get a lift.

Going to be along time until this is over, but i must remember to keep working hard to pay my tax so i can help the migrants have a home and the help of the NHS, how is it going to end:Stop:
