Got home and found a drawing pin smack bang in the middle of my front tyre. I have an unused bottle of slime, which I have never used before. Is it worth using? How do I get the valve out, just pull it with pliers? Gutted. Just wanted to get home and sit on my arse, now have to mess around with this Thanks.
If its in the middle of a relatively new tyre, I would be surprised if it would penetrate the carcass as the pin is so short, has the tyre gone down when you pulled it out?
First thing I'd do is as Macca suggests I wouldn't use slime as it can make a right old mess, but others might differ, more a matter of preference I guess. If its losing pressure I'd get the front wheel off and get it to a dealer, again others might say, new tyre. Providing the drawing pin is smack bang in the middle of the tread its patchable. I've had tyres patched in the past professionally and never had an issue. Usually valves screw out, either using a special valve removal tool or you may be able to get it unscrewed with a pair of long nose pliers
Ride to tyre place first, then pull it out and spray with water to check for leaks. Probably fine though.
It is, pulled it out straight away and it started going down. Is now virtually flat. The pin was smack bang in a groove so did penetrate.
Don't use slime on a front wheel as it could throw the wheel out of balance and could affect the steering. If you don't use the bike on track a plug would be fine, if you do or are going to consider it then a new tyre is best.
I've ordered a new Crafty Plugger as I can't find mine. Have been warned off slime by a few local lads too. Thanks all.
