In the next few days i'll be getting around to putting my R&G clutch cover onto the bike, but I before I do, I want to drill a few holes in the sides to aid ventitaltion of the open clutch inside, mainly for when its being used on track. I was thinking about three 4-5mm holes spaced evenly apart from the centre line should provide enough airflow, but not big enough to let big bits of gravel in, but I have a nagging worry about the structural integrity of the cover as I still want it to provide a good level of protection if it goes down the road Any suggestions/ideas?
on the latter point of cover integrity, I shouldn't worry Matt as i've yet to see any of the lightweight aftermarket covers offer adequate protection when a hard surface is involved and the drop is such that the damage has already crushed the fairing. The O.E.M. steel unit fairs best of all and even then it's possible to catch a spring cap/break a post or two off particularly if engine is still running.
If you have the rubber seal with the metal inserts remove the inserts from the seal and mount it with them and no rubber so you have a nice vent all the way round just an idea. brian.
I've done a similar thing to the above but used stainless steel washers to space the cover out. Use this on both my 999 and 1198 and don't suffer from graunching as much as I did with the gasket in place.
