Dropped My 916

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Ti-Tech, May 7, 2025 at 3:35 PM.

  1. Unfortunately I have had the mishap we all dread, dropped the bike and cant kick myself hard enough.
I am going to need a new lower fairing (Red) on the brake pedal side and a front brake lever if anyone knows of any used parts that i could purchase please let me know.

I have the 1994 916 so the brake lever is adjustable and has a sort of dark green/grey colour to it.
The fairing would ideally be from an early bike as they are a slightly different red but otherwise any good condition panel will have to do for now.

  3. Yep we’ve all done it :sob:

  4. my stomach turned when i saw that
i would rather repair not replace (its an original panel bike) and then get all the panels inc tank to professionally resprayed with original decals to achieve as close to factory (or better) as you can
getting anything close to a period correct panel may be near impossible

  5. Arghh..I feel your pain. Still, it could have been much worse.

I'd be tempted to repair too.

  8. It's an accident; I cant change it now so got to make the best of it and move forward.
I might still go the repair route but it means the bikes out of action for a while and id really like to get a good summer out of it.
Even if I get a replacement panel ill get the old one done at some point.

  9. Yeah at least I wasn't hurt, still hard when you only have yourself to blame.
Didn't expect the panel to be so badly damaged from such a small drop, I think there just really brittle.

  10. I took mine off for a service many years ago. Turned around and stood on it! glad you are good;

  11. Terribly sorry to read this. I know how you feel as I recently dropped my 851… The biggest damage is to the pride. ;)

Weren’t the 1994 916 levers precisely non adjustable ? I always believed this was one of the differences with the following vintages (1995 onwards). That and riveted fairings. All the well preserved 1994s I saw had non adjustable levers.

  12. Yay you aren't hurt! Though its gut wrenching when this happens.

But think of it another way. All those times you didn't drop it. All those rides when some twat almost knocked you off but you were too quick for their mistakes. So you aren't as foolish as you might be thinking right now.

Repairing it for I don't know how much, or just buying a new one (sprayed?) never mentioning again and getting on with the summer? I think you can probably tell what I'd do!

  13. I dropped mine a while back
I've got a pattern adjustable brake lever can't tell the difference in colour. I've also fitted a fibreglass race fairing and the originals are in the loft

  14. I think its because its a 916 S that it came with the adjustable levers. I have been told they were fitted to other bikes around that time so ill just have to keep an eye out for a period correct one, they are the same shape as the slightly newer ones but have a different colour.

  15.:heart: let's hope you can fix this problem quickly, and remember it could've been much worst.!

I was changing the engine oil on the Superlight today with a flip up stand, i used a mirror in the end viewing the min / max levels with my foot firmly behind the sidestand just in case.

  16. About 10 years ago, I purchased a new top LHS fairing for my 916 because it had a minor scuff on the original. After fitting the replacement in the garage I pushed the bike outside to fully appreciate the beauty of it while wearing crocks, slipped over and dropped the bike and putted a near identical scuff on the new fair! I wasn’t best pleased

  17. What a terrible thing to happen, it's very brave of you to put that out on a public forum. I've never owned any crocks and if I did I wouldn't let anyone know about it.

  18. I had a black pair of Crocs once. My mate said “Love the sling back cut down wellies”

    Never wore them again.

  19. After reading this thread it has become abundantly clear as to why it is almost impossible to find spare/replacement panels for our bikes!
