Out to day as it was lovely ! Thrashing about trying to keep up with an F4 on my 999 , on return have noticed oil coming from the bottom of the dry clutch housing - this is the second time, first thought it from the trapped breather pipe. Anyone any ideas ?? I know there are two rubber 'o' rings on the transfer rod could it be there ? cheers
The 'O' rings are at the other end of the rod to stop oil coming out of the LH side. There is an oil seal (and a bearing) inside the end of the shaft that the pushrod runs through, if this seal leaks then oil will drip out into the clutch. It's cheap and easy to replace but make sure you put it in the right way round because 'some say' that if you don't it may still leak, make your clutch slip and cause huge smokescreens on startup from the oil that drips onto your exhaust when parked...
There is an oil seal around the gearbox shaft that the clutch basket fits onto. This keeps the engine inside, well until it fails anyway. My brothers superlight had its seal fail. The hot oil permanently discoloured his carbon clutch cover and ruined the look of it. Easy enough to fix so long as you can get the clutch off.
