DSS Error...

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by sangood, Aug 12, 2013.

  1. Hi, I've just bought a new Multistrada S Pikes Peak, did a European tour on it over the last few weeks clocking up nearly 3,000 miles and just as I got it back home it came up with 'Error DSS' on the screen - anyone know what this means? I guess it's related to the active suspension. It happens everytime I start the bike leaned over on the side stand but if I pick the bike up and start it with the kick stand up then the error doesn't appear. I can change all the riding modes and feel the suspension changing - although it did feel quite a hard bumpy ride on the way back home. I'm guessing the active suspension has failed - just wondered if anyone had come across this error before? I've called the dealer and they havent heard of it before, taking it in on Saturday... Thanks for any help....

  2. Speak to your dealer - the factory have just released on Friday a modification of the routing of the cable of the rear accelerometer that causes a DSS error

  3. Great thanks, I'll speak to them tomorrow, thanks again..

  4. Happened to me on my S Touring at 6,500 miles. Accelerometer replaced under warranty. By the way I think the part costs £800+ do il am glad it was a warranty job.

  5. First signs of issues with Skyhook now?

  6. i thought you were getting trouble from the Dole office....

  7. Took my bike into the dealer today and they told me that they had received instructions from Ducati on how to fix the DSS Error. It is indeed to rewire to the accelerometer as it was originally done too tight which could cause the connection to come loose or be pulled out completely. Will update when I get the bike back...

  8. Any update please?.....and or more information on DSS errors?

On behalf of a potential new member from Mexico City! :D

  9. Hmm I have the 2014 model, anyone know if they fixed this?

  10. Looks like the cause could be as simple as the cable to the rear wheel sensor (Accelerometer ) being too tight so that under larger suspension travel it pulls and the connection to the sensor breaks.
Worth checking the cable tension........just cable tied along its route?

  11. Its a recall. Yet to have mine done

  12. It is a recall for sure. The fix is a new accelerometer with a longer cable. If you had your bike in earlier for rerouting of the cable, you can also get it changed out with the new one.

  13. If someone could post a photo showing the whereabouts of the connector for the sensor cable that would be useful ;-)

  14. This any good?

  15. MTS 1200s, 2015

I have since yesterday DSS Code is up.
I also have it with it a MIL light on, the one in the middle bottom.
I guess one comes with another.
I will contact my dealer too.
I hope it is about what I am reading here.

  16. DSS error on my 2013 S today. Presumably the simplest first step will be to have a good nose around the rear wheel, and look for broken or damaged cables?

  17. Doubt you will see it buddy, mine went a few weeks ago on my 2013 GT and was replaced FOC by my dealer ....I knew where to look and there was no breaking I could see in the wires. the sensor is located in the housing on the top of the swing arm just above where the 2 bolts to remove the crud catcher are.

The wire then feeds along the swingarm in a group of cables that run behind the rear brake cylinder reservoir then vanish behind the bodywork to the ECU.

The replacement wire is slightly longer than the original and remedies the issue

Bit late tonight but I will take a couple of pics tomorrow

  18. Thank you, you're a star, that's really appreciated! Fingers crossed it'll be a simple fix for mine then...

  19. Mine was a weird one as it would only show when the bike was on the sidestand and I started it...... I could clear it by recycling the ignition while the bike was upright and off the sidestand....that's why I knew it was a gyro sensor before Ducati plugged it in as there are assorted sensor failures that all show as DSS error, some are front wheel, some are rear wheel

The most common one is the rear wheel accelerometer we are referring to ;)

  20. Sounds as though the dealer will need to plug mine in to determine which one is at fault...
