Duc 748 optimum gearing?

  1. Hi All,
Any thoughts on the best gearing options for my 748. Its used for fast B road stuff, rarely over 120 etc.

    Cheers

14 front and 40 rear works OK, if you want to try to get the 30mph revs into a better place for quiet but smooth delivery in town try 41 on the back. Note the chain length needs to go up to 96 links with a 40 rear.

If you want to play get a 96 link chain and an AFAM (or similar) carrier with quick release sprockets, once you have the carrier the rear sprockets can be bought pretty cheap (£30) and are simple to change. The AFAM hardened alloy 40 tooth one on mine has gone 8k miles with little to no wear on it using dry chain lube. At least double the mileage I was expecting with quite a few more to come

  3. I have a spare renthal quick release carrier somewhere and some used 520 sprockets if you want to try them.

I'll dig them out and check the number of teeth on them in the morning.

I'm down there probably tomorrow night till Thursday, if your interested.

  4. Thanks guys, I want to retain the keep the current chain as its only done 2k so I will keep info this for when I change the whole kit for an Afam chain and HA sprockets
    Nice one
