Hi Everyone, This is my first post so hope someone can help. I have stored my bike for a couple of years and recently tried to start it again with a brand new battery. It turned over but wouldn't fire and I noticed no click click from the fuel pump. I dismantled the tank and found to my horror that all the fuel pipes had begun to melt. I cannot understand why this should have happened though it's my fault for leaving fuel in the tank I guess. However has anyone else had experience of this? Surely the pipes should be resistant to fuel? I have now removed the disintegrating pipes - what a messy job - and will now set about replacing them. I also need to get the fuel pump checked as it is clearly not working. Has anyone any views on this? Thanks
Fuel pump not priming could be the relay sticking, check for power getting to the pump first, fuel pipes melting is becoming more common as more ethanol is added to the petrol. Steve
Question for Steve R, All of my toys are now over 15 years old, so would you recommend the replacement of fuel lines as a useful, preventative maintenance exercise on any bike over 10, 15 or 20 years old? The 3rd Steve on this thread.
