Hi all! I have a 999 with an assymetric termi fitted. I would like to do a track day at Silverstone, but am worried my bike will not pass the noise test. I dont want to spend the money only to be turned away coz Im too loud! Has anyone got any experience of this circuit with a 999 and a termi?? Thanks in advance for your replies!
I just did Snetterton on my 999s with Termi slip-on: it was marginal - measured 103db at 5,000 rpm. The noise tester said "I've you're really quick you might trigger the noise meters down the back straight". Strangely enough I didn't get black-flagged... What's the limit set to be at Silverstone? Cheers, Dom
Its 102db ride by and 105db static. Might be best off putting the standard can back on!! Thanks for replying Dom!
But the static test 'if' they make you do it is done at 3/4 of your rev range, not 5000rpm as the acu test is. They will only do a static test if they hear your bike In the pits and want to check it out. Baffle in you should be ok. If you chance your arm without one, get caught, then say 'I'll just put my baffle in then' you're wasting your time. Silverstone won't let you on. I was there Wednesday with my full system, baffles in with no problem. There was even a 1198 with slip one and no baffles going round with no issues. Matt
Anyone that would rev a ducati to nearly 8000 revs to do a sound test is a complete moron that dosent know shit from clay. Ive been tested a few times and never had to rev past 4,500 revs. Sustained revving , with no load , can cause all sorts of mechanical devastation .
For one I'm not a complete moron. Second, that IS the static test that they make you do at Silverstone if they wish to test you. I never said I did it. I'm fully aware that it is not in line with ACU testing, however it is as per the brief given to us last wednesday by the Silverstone staff and is mandated to them by the council and they apologise for that, acknowledging that most bikes would fail. Daft I know. That is why I was advising to take baffles and use them as I certainly would not like to have to do a test like that with a full system, let alone any form of aftermarket system. With the ride by test any bike that triggers the meter gets photographed, and the incident is sent straight to the council (not photo) so that they know that the noise limit has been breeched. That means that the circuit have to take action immediately and will result in a black flag, followed by static noise test. Tyrying to deny it was you won't cut it as they have a nice colour photo to show you with the noise reading. I know, as they allowed you to go into the control to see the system. On a side note we had no one kicked off for noise, and there were even BSB/ superstock bikes going round. Matt
I wasnt inferring you were a moron i was inferring that the instigators were morons . And who ever they are. Be it the local council know nothings or the Silverstone yes men they are morons. My bike would not bow to there idiotic requests . Even the nerbergring only rev a twin to 4500 .
Apologies, we'll put that down to a misinterpretation. 105db is effing loud though, and as we all know, due to all the other factors involved what can pass one day can fail the next. Matt
Yeah thats true Mine was 104 at the nerberg and then 20 minutes later , worth a try , it was 102 with a different tester . Position means every thing . Never got tested again and I was there all week.
