Has anybody fitted the official Ducati heated handlebar grips (96680092B) to their bikes? I'd rather have them than say, Oxford grips on my new purchase, as they work through the dash menu. But they are pricey, are they worth it?
I had the Ducati heated grips on my MTS. I have them on my Scrambler and on my Supersport 939. Yes they are pricey but they work well and there is no messy wires nor controller to clutter up the bars. The ones on the Scrambler and SS don't get as hot as those on the MTS did which I couldn't use at max, but the Multi ones were known for burning out. The down side is that you will have to get the dealer to activate them in the dash.
Thanks Derek. I know I'll buy them for the reasons you say (neat wiring and integration with the dash). I just wanted to check that they were any good. I'm surprised that they have to be enabled by a dealer. I read this portion of the owners manual last night, and it just mentions the heat setting on the dash, nothing about enabling them. I'll check later.
You don't see heat settings on the dash until it has been enabled - unless your bike has had it done already.
I have them on the DVT MS - they are nice and tidy - but not hot enough... In cold weather when temp is less than 10'C and your out for a few hours.. then I use the grips and also Keis heated inner gloves to keep warm. The ones fitted on a previous VFR1200 were EXCELLENT - But my 2 Multis and Scrambler are OK - not Great.. Never tried AM ones to compare...
I've got them on the Scrambler, lovely lovely lovely. It's a couple of hundred quid well-spent and if you time it with a service and your dealer is nice, you might get them enabled without a charge
Yep Derek, you are correct. I started the bike, and pressed the starter button to go through the heated grip settings.........nothing. I guess I'll have to have this activated when I buy them. As I'm likely to buy them from my dealer, the cost of activating the option should be negligible or gratis. I buy quite a bit from him.
I have them on my Multi as a retro fit Nelly fitted them when in for service.Seemed to be pretty much plug and play but needed a lot of plastic removing. They work well although I find the highest setting too hot Reading about your proposed Trip to Italy though I think you are right getting as much comfort on the bike as possible
Well, it comes from watching a BaronVonGrumble Youtube video when he said it can get a bit nippy in the Alps, even in summer. I have heated gloves, but find them bulky. The hand guards with heated grips could work well.
The weather can change in a flash in the mountains After touring Spain for the last six years we are headed to Austria in September. Will have to be kitted up a bit differently I think. That being said. I spoke to an Austrian guy at Bike Show who runs a biker hotel and his recommendation was September , fingers crossed
Some friends on the trip have done a similar route before and said July / August was just too hot. Hence September.
