Going to install my slipper clutch that I have had laying around for a while. Can anyone tell me the correct orientation of the Belleville washer, convex or concave? Im guessing convex as the nut will compress it, but been told it’s concave way to put on? want to make extra sure, no instructions, very easy as a basic slipper, just need to get it right and will do with the help of some of you technical freaks. Thanks.
Here is the info from the 748R factory manual View attachment 199663 View attachment 199664 View attachment 199663 View attachment 199664 View attachment 199663 View attachment 199664
Hi Chris, not sure what’s going on with me trying to attach pics in reply but the two are extracts from the factory 748R manual, hope that helps
That’s great, appreciated, just re-read my post and meant concave facing the hub, not convex..jeez, late night. And the info you have provided confirms it...So basically goes on with the dome facing you when on the drum ....as opposed to a saucer shape when on. Makes sense.
Mmmm, still not sure pal, if you look at the drawing it shows the dome facing the bush ???and yet the words say different
It sits behind the main nut, and in front of bush that sits in the spider spring ...but Belleville for a reason. Somebody I know has installed it with dome side facing out and says it runs with no problem that way round
yes i know where it is! it was more a question to get you to think does it really matter which way around it goes.....what would be the consequence of fitting it either way... cant wait til we get on to the height of the stack...
That’s why I’m asking, as last Slipper I had was on opposite way to the way I would have put it on. I’ve sorted stack height...my plates I took off from previous owner had 40.5mm! I’ve always had tad over 36.5mm on Ali plates in a slipper
plus you cant go by the accuracy of the parts diagrams...ive put it both ways no issues.. its better to measure the height of the stack in situe in the drum built.
Well, once I get this bit off I may get on. Not budging one bit...Absolutely welded to the spline, usually comes off with the hub, don’t think it’s ever been taken off since the bike was built
You’re right, heat looks to be the way forward, have to borrow works heat gun. Knew it would be a sod, but guess it’s never been taken off. Edit: now off, pry bar and lots of swearing
Runs very smooth. I put stack height a tad over the 36.5mm recommendation. Luckily only do minimal mileage on this bike and will refresh each winter.
