Ducati Threebond

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by JC749, May 14, 2014.

  1. Can anyone tell me how long this stuff takes to cure as there are no instructions.

I have had my waterpump cover off and am wondering how long I should leave it before I put coolant back in....

  2. I don't use Threebond but something similar and three hours I would have thought should be enough. The datasheet (for Threebond) only states that you leave it for a maximum of 15 minutes to set before assembly.

  3. as Red says, it can set in around 3 hours but this is when the ambient temp is high (21 deg-ish) and the shelf life is low. The last crankcase side I put on recently was not set properly even after leaving it overnight. If there is a bit of excess sealer squidged out when you clamp it up then you can check it for consistency to see if it has set (it's normally quite rubber-like).

  4. I leave overnight at least! Had a miserable time a year or so ago with a side casing! Walk away! :Woot:
As Chris says, I squirt a bit somewhere in the man cave and check that.

  5. So with a waterpump cover its just a case of applying the sealant, replacing the cover (nipping up) and leaving overnight?

  6. Really...? :Mooning:

  7. I've done a clutch change (in DD) stripped, replaced, sealed and raced in a hour with threebond without issue

  8. I figured that they wouldnt wait overnight in the factory when they make them but I have nipped it all up and will leave it overnight just to be safe.

Its quite good fun applying the stuff

I used a non-scratch scourer with a little contact cleaner to remove the old gasket. Worked a treat.

    Thanks for the help.

  11. Same as some others, build up with threebond and fire it up! Never had a problem yet.

  12. As an alternative you can use Renault Thixo CAF/40. This is much better and is resistant to Unleaded petrol into the bargain. I use it to seal the cases on my Suzuki RGV 250 track bike and it sets quickly and goes off a lot quicker prior to assembly.

It's also more reasonably priced and has a longer shelf life.
