Dvla License Changes

  1. So who else thinks the new changes to the license and having to get a code that lasts 72hrs for driving abroad is a load of crap?
It has a huge impact on me with my job as I travel at very short notice frequently. Why couldn't they just introduce a chip or swipe system that would have done the same as the paper part!!!!

  2. Yep, think it will add extra time at car rental places thus time not spent on business / holiday.

  3. Doesn't work for a NI issued license. Then again, we don't get points :D

  4. So what happens when you upset the road priest?

  5. There's been changes?

  6. No. Go back to sleep!

  7. in n Ireland if your caught speeding you pay a fine of £ 60 and no points, if your really hammering on then you could end up n court and that's where it gets rough....bigger fines capped at about £500 I think ad still no points...drink driving's different though as you loose your licence, but there's no one about to check.

  8. the south of Ireland is really different....they are trying hard to fit into Europe and have recently announced the euro driving bill....basically cars bikes etc in 2020 will change over to driving on the right, in 2021 lorry's, large vans tractors etc will follow suit. its a sort of stepped change over.

  9. I'm overseas at the minute but driving my own car. But about 20 times a year on average I would say I'm hiring a car overseas on call outs. I usually find out within hours of going and have to book everything and pack before a mad rush for an airport. Couple of weeks ago I was in Finland an had less than 3 hours sleep before I traveled so this will mean less sleep or if like today the website being down then I'd be screwed!!!

  10. I've seen that idea being trialled here in England.
I'm not sure it was an official thing ... it probably just seems a good idea at the time.

  11. buy a fugly, no need to worry about a freekin licence.

  16. Sorry, I thought I was joking about your joke! You were being serious (and with that avatar, too!).

  17. The online self checking system works well :)

If abroad I'd use my old stuff and if challenged either create a code there and then (most have wifi) or log in myself and show them. You can download and email if too iirc

  18. System was down all day yesterday, Avis and Europcar wouldn't release cars without paper part or online check in Helsinki as my colleague found out

  19. Well, the priest would ignore me.

  20. Are you all still using a paper licence with no photo?
