E Mail Problems

  1. We seem to be having problems with our Yahoo emails-instances of our sent emails not being received.Has anyone else had probs with Yahoo?we are thinking now of going over to G Mail as a precaution?thankyou.

  2. I use Yahoo occasionally but I have not noticed any problems, were you linked in with BT mail at all? I use Gmail all the time now and find it is perfect for all my needs never had a problem with it at all and the server never seems to play up.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. Thankyou Red998-yes i think we were linked in with BT Mail.I have just looked up the G Mail sign up and think we will go with it.Never hear any complaints about Gmail.

  4. When BT stopped using Yahoo and decided to make things more complicated and to charge for using their email I gave up Yahoo completely and didn't go with BT's new setup. Gmail is better and it's free with no strings attached.

  5. Mervyn All the smart people are with G mail- probably why I'm still using Hotmail!

  7. I have BT Yahoo email at the moment...............It's working fine so far today.....it came with my original deal with BT for Broadband and Free calls.....had it for several years now.

Mrs AL has just renewed the contract for the same as near as dammit.........whether it will be more or less expensive, I don't have a clue, because their billing is so peculiar it appears impossible to work out 'why' and 'what'.

If they are charging for my email it can only be through the Broadband usage per month, because nowhere is there anything that details email charges.

I also run email through my website host, but because email is sent/received via BT Broadband, that puts up the Broadband usage.

However, what always seems to kill competitors' cheaper deals, is the line rental which of course is BT and if there is ever a problem with the line or the plant it is damn sight easier to make BT/OpenReach deal with it, than having the split responsibilty between BT and the other companies.

  8. Same here Arquebus.Had BT broadband and emails for years with very little in the way of problems.Billing details and all that goes with it is completely baffling. We pay for line rental by direct debit for the year to save a bit.I will get Mrs Mervyn to sort out our calling plan as she has form with BT having to sort out her Mothers call plan.I think she can deal with the call centre in India better than I would.
We have had friends saying they have not received emails, and I have been waiting for replies from emails sent-nothing coming back.
I do not much like technology and things done by mirrors, give me something tangible any day.

  9. Mervyn At the very least sign up with Gmail to get an account, even I have one, although the only reason I am sticking with Hotmail is because I have my Hotmail email address printed on my business cards and stationary etc. I fully intend to do the switchover sometime though.

Gmail is free, and as mentioned all the smart people are with them. There are advantages as well I believe, although I'm being cautious not to take you into the mysterious realms of synching with your hardware, I will leave that for another time!

I have just changed my broadband supplier to BT, because I was a cheapskate last MotoGP season and didn't want to spend more money, but with the sale that BT have now I am not paying anymore than I was with TalkTalk, but have the huge advantage of being able to watch all the splendid MotoGP coverage.

  10. @mervyn

Did you get an email from BT during 2014 about checking your system set up due to changes to bt yahoo mail? Not at home so I can't be sure of the details, but go to bt website, email section and look for piece entitled " use by yahoo mail? You'll be moving to bt mail later this year"

Summat about 'pop' vs 'IMAP' in your account settings- iirc.

May help sort your issues, or at least move the issue forward a bit. Your bt contract may entitle you to phone their helpline to check - worth a look/call

    Good luck.

  13. Yahoo - the CIA's best friend....the last time I looked Yahoo had the highest concentration of compromised web servers...although that was mid-last year...
