How are those of us with older bikes going to run our bikes? will this affect the Ducati 748/996/8 range of bikes? can we rebuild with new seals that won’t rot? it’s a real kick in the classic balls
yes, there are seals that are ethanol-proof. "O" rings will be a relatively easy replacement, it's the bespoke seals (like a float bowl) that will be more of a challenge.
I provided this information on another thread and thought it might be of interest here. Since I'm not sure how to link to other threads, I have reproduced it again below. I hope it helps, and my apologies for the duplication. The following information on Ethanol content of Petrol may be of interest, particularly for the premium grades and supply location in the UK: https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol https://support.shell.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005935369-What-is-Ethanol- https://www.bp.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/products-and-services/e10-petrol.html#accordion_Is%20my%20petrol%20car%20compatible%20with%20E10? https://texaco.co.uk/pages/e10.aspx The link below is to a website that is monitoring fuel ethanol levels at locations in UK: http://www.ethanil.co.uk/league-table/ Links to Government information are: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol I think there is more information available on this subject elsewhere on this forum. For what its worth, Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 has been my preference for sometime, including overwintering. It's also worth noting that this information does not apply elsewhere in Europe, so taking a fuel additive on your trip might be worth considering? Hope this helps. Tom.
My Alfa from 2003 has been running on E10 for 30K miles in the last 4 years and is not approved for E10 according to the gov. lists. Couln't care less, it's a cheap car. My 900ss 2001 ran fine on E10 during a 600 mile trip last month, However I'll make sure the tank is filled completely with E5 during the winter stop. IMO the problem with E10 is storage instead of refuelling on a regular basis. Read the comments below the video.
Sainsburys have both E10 unleaded and super unleaded E5 at most stores as do most supermarkets I use Shell V power
That’s a well kept secret tried to google and it’s under the radar still can’t find out if it is I believe what your saying Looks like an up and coming company Every days a learning day Do their pumps have stickers on them?
Sorry for being absent I’ve been out riding! massive dick move I was being badgered by my mate at the pump! He wanted me to fill up his bike.....long story short I put £1.50 in diesel in my bike!! The rest was petroleum and my tank was nearl empty so we just carried on! i always said ducati engines are built like tractors and my new nickname is diesel. the bike backfired a bit more than normal and smelled like an old van from the back but with no ill affects! if it’s only storage of e10 that’s an issue sea foam will sort that out
Dow here in Brazil every petrol is E27. I don’t believe the engines received any kind of adaptation. No issues here so far in my Monster 1100S.
Apart from the Ethanol content the other difference between E5 and E10 is the octane rating. Now my old Classic Ducati's run on as close to 100 Octane fuel as I can find, E10 is 95 ron or octane, whereas E5 is as much as 99 ron or octane rating. Shell V Power being the best pump fuel available now days, I use this when setting up the fueling on my tuned bikes. I do hope that I don't need to go back to the days when I needed to carry Octane booster in a rucksac??? I once set off for a round trip to Le Mans with 5Lts of Pro Boost alcohol based booster strapped on my back. FFS!!!! I was a fast travelling BOMB. Steve R
