For Sale Ebay Postage.

  1. Trying to sell a few parts on Ebay and having trouble entering postage cost.Ebay sends me down their simple postage cost route and I want to sort out my own service with Royal mail and charge the buyer accordingly.I am sure that I must be missing something when listing but cannot enter my own postage choice.
    Any advice would be helpful,thankyou.
Ps I am old and stupid so simplicity is appreciated.

  2. EBay started this recently and it’s a complete pain ! Sadly there is no way round it, but I have used it (Royal Mail options) and it does work.

you just get a label from eBay and take the parcel to the post office.

    hope that helps!

  3. Thank you Darko.I am glad it was not me being stupid.I shall try what you have done and see what happens. No doubt another source of income for Ebay from the Royal Mail cut.

  4. I've been through this recently too.

I did find a way initially to get around using it when creating the listings, but apologise I can't remember the details.

However, a couple of listings I had up were automatically changed to the new system.
I was initially annoyed by this, but when I used it I was pleasantly surprised by how much easier it was to just go with it.
Basically a couple of clicks to create the label rather than log on to Evri or similar and go through the whole process.

    Beware however.
When creating the listing do choose one of the parcel sizes so Ebay can choose the best courier option.
I recently sold an exhaust silencer and hadn't chosen a large package.

Ebay estimated it as a standard Royal Mail Package and only gave me that option.
The wrapped package was over the length limit for Royal Mail, but within the weight.
Again to be fair to Ebay I messaged them through the link given and they changed it within a couple of hours.

  5. I came across this issue, and decided its just too difficult to sell on Ebay. Also when you get paid , your payment now goes into your ebay account for you the purchase items on ebay instead of going straight to your paypal account.

  6. Thank you Nasher for your help and info.I am just about to put up a small item and will apply what you and Darko have advised. Many thanks.

  7. Apparently Business sellers can opt out of the new postage system, private sellers can't, although when it first changed to this system i recall selling something and had the option to opt out of their simple postage method ,it seems that has now changed with no option to opt out. As stated above its important to state the correct package size when compiling your listing, but once you get used to it its fairly straightforward.

  8. I had this issue this week. My listing was changed by them without my knowledge. However, when I queried it they did say I could opt out at the listing stage. I'm not a business seller. It also appears that the selling for free claim is very loosely applied as they deduct buyers protection.

    Edit
It appears I was told rubbish and they no longer allow you to do your own postage. I have ended all my listings.

  9. I have sold several bits and pieces lately and i could not find any link to opt out of their postage system at the listing stage, i emailed them and they informed me that as a private seller the option to provide bespoke postage was no longer available...if selling and you find a way to opt out please post it on here.

  10. If you didn’t already have enough reasons to avoid selling on eBay, this should tip you over. The worst restrictive practices used by a market dominant company. Andy

  11. Just make sure your parcel is under the size and weight which you have paid for. The post office will check before they issue the proof of postage.

  12. I'm putting up with it to be honest. and what are everyone's alternatives to ebay for bits and pieces?

  13. The ebay postage prices are also unrealistic. Make sure you add a pound or two to the sale price.

  14. I really don't see it as a reason for giving up selling on Ebay.

Yes it's restrictive, but as mentioned I've found it far easier to use than doing it all yourself.
With a small amount of effort when creating your listing, no more than if working it out yourself, you can still have a choice of courier.

Personally I prefer to use Evri because I have a drop of point near home that is open early until late 7 days a week, unlike the Post Office.
We also have a great delivery driver. Unlike the PO who now only deliver to us 2 days a week and leave stuff out in the rain in full view of the street.

  15. Thank you all for your info and comments.
Something I am going to try yellowducmaniac is to advertise an expensive item with collection preferred, but at the end of my description say that postage could be arranged if the buyer messages me.No doubt Ebay have an Algorithym in place to stop this.
If this doesn't work I will use the advicegiven on here, for which is much appreciated thankyou.Especially as it means I an not going senile.

  16. I've had very good success selling via Facebook marketplace. It's now my preferred option. I always post a picture with the parts, my name and date as proof it's not a scam. Sometimes people will ask for a picture of their choice, like a teddybear in the picture with the parts as reassurance and I'm happy to oblige.
I don't like the new eBay system as I prefer using royal mail pick up and this doesn't appear to be an option. I don't want to have to go to the post office for every small parcel.

  17. Like Petsmith I prefer to use the Royal Mail pick up from my home.My preferred postage for small items is 48hr tracked which I can buy on line. The postie can also bring out the address label for my parcel.
Not possible for me to get to a post office or collection point so the Ebay simple postage does not suit me at all.

  18. I did have a chat with their support when it 1st became compulsory to use it, the tech support people seemed to acknowledge that there are many cases where simple delivery does not work, they did say they were actively looking at it, but it might help if anyone who cant use it calls them to let them know that
