  1. I have a low value item to sell on ebay, probably worth about £12-£15.i do not sell a lot on ebay and would like advice on the best format.do I auctiion with low start price or classified ad with a best offer.what would be the cheapest fees wise?
I do not take on the ebay info very easily,so would be greatful for advice direct from frequent ebay sellers.Thankyou.

  2. TBH mate, I'd give it away instead to someone on a forum etc.

Ebay for that value is a pain. You have to package, it, post it, track it and then they have to be happy with it...

Give it away or bin it.

  3. Sounds sensible.I am trying to de clutter, have thrown lots away already.I might well offer it here .Thankyou for your advice.

  4. You could sell it on Gumtree for free. It depends on what the item is, if it's something a lot of people want then eBay can be a better bet.

Time is also another factor, if you want to make a few quid and don't mind posting the item then have a go at using eBay with a 0.99p start price, you can sometimes get a bid war going on for your item and then all of a sudden you can actually turn a nice profit even after fees etc.

I've sold a fair number of items on eBay over the years and some have gone for way more than expected and in fact most of the time I have been happy enough with the return for the effort.

  5. Thank you for that information Red998.the item I have is a submersible transformer for pond'garden lighting, only used for testing and still has the labels attached on the cables.Good quality item, not a cheap imported one.

  6. Facebook, if you do the social media thing and have a network of likeminded contacts. No fee's there .

  7. Stick it on ebay as a buy it now, usually free to list. Sit back and wait till some one buys it, then post it out. If its a cheap item use a service like myHermes as its tracked and insured for not many £'s

    Personally I rarely use auctions.

I should imagine the postage on the transformer is going to be quite a bit, so probably not worth the time and effort to advertise on ebay.

Worth putting it in Friday ad though, I use it sometimes and the beauty of it is that they send you an email every week asking if you want to readvertise the item. One click and it's readvertised- brilliant.
I have had stuff advertised for yonks, no bites, then I might get 3 enquires in a row, normally just after I've sold it!

Gumtree also free, but you have to keep resubmitting the ad every week.
    Vice is excellent btw.

  9. eBay.

How long have they been adding a Final Value Fee onto postage? :Wideyed:

I sold a pair of speakers for £139 and expected to pay 10%, approx £14. So checked my account today to pay the bill and found they also charged 10% on the postage of £22.50, which added another £2.50 to the bill.

They should have a bloody mask on, the robbing ba***rds. :Meh:
