ECU CMC Seals

  1. Don't know if this will help anyone but...

Discovered that both of the blue silicone rubber seals around the CMC plugs that go in to the ECU on my 998 have split and are no longer water tight. Ducati only want to sell you a new loom - and if you ask them how much - then sit down before you get the answer!

After a few hours of web trawling discovered a few things which might help someone.

    1) The ECU is made by Magneti Marelli - and they won't sell you bits.

    2) The IAW59 ECU is common to several european vehicles including a 1.2 8V Punto Mark 2 and also Alfa Romeo.... if you want second hand - ebay is your friend!

    3) The plugs are called CMC Seal Plugs and are made by a company called Molex. If you go on Molex's web site, the 36 Pin Variant which is what the Ducati has doesn't appear to be listed..... however the 24 Pin Variant is.... and the pin face has identical dimensions to the 36 Pin face.

    4) You can find these on Ebay - just search Molex CMC - and up they come - £4.68 with Free P&P.... carefully remove seals with a cocktail stick, and fit to your plugs.... job done!

  3. Have you got a link? I couldn't find them on eBay.

  4. Just to update this - the Molex plugs arrived today - and the seals are identical and a perfect fit.
