Dear All, Seeking some advice on what to do next please. Problem. It started a few weeks ago when the fuel pump was changed, but has since morphed into electrical fault in the ECU (probably unconnected). However, I am now faced with power going into the ECU, but nothing coming out. On closer inspection one of the teeth on the EPROM chip was missing and it looks like one of the capacitors has burnt out (see attached). Options: Through the process of elimination, do I: 1. Change the EPROM chip and see if that's the issue? 2. Buy a secondhand ECU? 3. Send the ECU off for repair? (which is difficult in the UAE as I can't find anyone) My underlying concern is why did this happen in the first place and am I just going to chase my tail fixing small issues, when there is a larger one lurking in the background. Thanks in advance / Grateful for some guidance.
I think it's the ground pin of the chip that has broken off so it's definitely no good. The burnt looking item is a diode not a capacitor. It looks like the damage is more to the circuit board than the diode, probably from too high a current due to a faulty fuel pump or a short circuit somewhere. The diode may be ok. Check that it conducts in one direction but not the other. The circuit board may be in need of some repair though. It should be possible to bridge the damaged track by soldering in a short length of thin wire across the break.
Simon you ill need a new chip anyway, TommyB on here or Rich at Louigi Moto may have one that will work. I wonder if final_edition sold this https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/new-marelli-iaw-435-p8-ecu.55904/ if not better take the opportunity quickly. Also I think there are some on here antonye (maybe) who do ECU repairs
Thanks for the heads-up. I've already ordered a chip and have clicked your link and I'll wait to see if the ECU is still for sale.
Apologies the confusion, I used a different account to post this thread, so don't get confused. I will update as necessary
Final Update. Firstly thanks for the advice. I have some great support from the wider community as well and can now report that after a series of fault finding challenges, I purchased a new ECU and the 'old girl' burst into life again, but also has a few new parts which needed replacing anyway. Unfortunately this has coincided with a house move, job move and the fact it's now summer and riding in 40+ degrees is not that much fun (unless you like your thighs and balls medium rare at the end of each ride)). So looks like it'll be in the dining room for a while.
