Classic Ecu Re-map Worth It?

  1. 2015 Scrambler Classic with Scorpion Exhaust.
Runs fine as I use 99 octane all the time.

Am curious about a re-map and the benefits if any, also would it affect the resale/trade in value?

    SP.

  2. What are you hoping to get out of it? is it power? or better throttle connection?

A number of people have had good experiences with Booster plugs, which while they are not a remap they fool the ECU into thinking the air is colder than it really is which in turn creates a richer mixture and seems to improve closed/open throttle and general low speed running. They are quite cheap and this would be easily reversible.

I'm sure CJS etc could map the bike though also, but I imagine it's nearer £300 rather than £100 for a Booster plug, so if it's power you want, you need the remap.

  3. Looked long and hard at trying to get a little more out of our Icon but proved costly for a very small gain. The biggest (and to my mind the most limiting) issue is the single front disc isn’t up to coping with the current performance. When I get my arse in gear, I have a better front brake master cylinder to fit. Andy

  4. I'm inclined to agree, my comments when I rode my mates ICON were that the on/off throttle connection was way to choppy and that the front brake lacked power. You could fix both those things fairly reasonably cost wise but I can't imagine you will get much from the engine, the main limitation is probably from memory the fact I think it uses a single throttle body if I'm not mistaken?

  5. Nellie advised modifying the air box to increase air flow as the best you could do. Andy

  6. I was under the impression that with the new exhaust it would run lean increasing engine temp and was curious of other benefits if any.
I contacted junction33 https://www.facebook.com/DynoDude/ said they could do it no problems.

Front brake seems ok for me(improved with sintered pads), maybe it's a problem with my arse and gearing :).

Choppy throttle improved since running on 99 octane.
    Yes,is single throtle body.

    Thanks for the input :upyeah:
insurance renewal two weeks away, time to mull it over yet.

  7. Is that yet another modification?, when I added the Maxton rear shock the bastard insurance co. cancelled my policy.

  8. Weighing it all up, cost of the map and extra insurance, I'll give it a miss. I'll just keep running on 99octane.
Thanks all for your input, appreciated.
    :upyeah:

  9. Chrisw on here, remapped my 1198 SP ECU and it was just right.
I'm sure he could advise on what you are considering?
If you do remap, I think you probably need to inform your insurance company that you have made the changes.
    Good luck.
    Tom.
